I have only ever once worked retail (and mall retail at that) during the Christmas shopping season. That was 18 years ago.

Were I ever again faced with that as the only means of earning a living, I'd seriously consider cutting off my own arms and going on disability first. Those workers who manage to survive the crush of unbridled avarice year after year are some tough cookies.

I have never done BS Friday (pun intended) and won't. It would just be my luck that I'd save $100 on all sorts of junk and some idiot would be in a panic and smash into my car costing me $1000.

My son and daughter-in-law both have to work and their daycare person is taking the day off. So my black Friday will be spent enjoying the company of my 8 month old grandson.

I can't think of a better way to spend the day.

I cherish my days off work, and I hate crowds - those things add up to no Black Friday shopping for me. If I have a day off, I want to spend it lounging, reading, riding, cleaning, or something I love. Fighting crowds for something anyone anywhere could buy doesn't sound like fun to me. I do like shopping for unique gifts, though, and buying from artists.

I'll be spending it at the barn and at the local feed store, picking up some (un-discounted) grain. You couldn't pay me to head to stand in one of those lines.

I am really happy to read these "thumbs down on black Friday" posts!

I work PT retail and love having the extra hours. The day speeds by and I'm MAKING money instead of SPENDING it.

Reminds me of the guy I know who sells tires. When I asked him how he could sell fancy chrome rims for so much money he said, "If they're stupid enough to buy them, I'm happy to take their money."

Crazy: MrTiki is a P.O. and the department has deemed BF a "holiday" so some of the support staff (like administration) get the day off with pay and Officers on the job actually get paid double time.

I have to work retail too (AT A MALL no less). I am not looking forward to it and am extremely grateful for my family who have said they will give me a lift so at least I don't have to tackle parking. I think my sister wants to shop it (crazy) but in her defense she's a student and only ever shops when she's at home. We wont be at home for Christmas this year, so I kind of get it.

Yes, I think the OP is having a temper tantrum because no one is sharing her BS Friday enthusiasm.

My opinion? As I posted on Facebook:
"It is just SICK for people to be so pig-grunting greedy the day after "Thanksgiving." 'Black Friday' is why it is now *acceptable* to go shopping in pajamas.

That's OK. I got a thumbs down for saying that I'll be spending the day with my grandson. There are simply no words to express exactly how unimportant that opinion is to me.

I, too, find Black Friday repulsive. Will be staying home, having a lie in, and then cleaning my house.

May go in to town on Saturday and support my local businesses, though.

Half price at the local Goodwill store on Black Friday...nice people, good cause, and I need spoons! I noticed the SPCA is also having a Black Friday sale here, opening at 4 am.

I am going out to a tack store to get Rose a turnout blanket! They have a BF Sale starting at 7 am. That and being in a parade later is all I am doing!

I might go on Thurs because it looks like there is a laptop for a good price and right now I could really use one as the one I have now is running at 8 years old.

I've never shopped on BF, but I do find humor in people calling it "greedy" when the day before is pure gluttony.

All of my holiday shopping is online or local small stores.

On any day of the year...trying to get me into a mall or large store is like trying to get a pissed off cat into a cat carrier. Limbs splayed, claws out gripping the doorway, hair standing on end and hissing and spitting the entire time.

    Definitely!!

In fact, if you have an American Express card, you can register it via a special promotion Amex is doing. Register your card
(https://enroll.amexnetwork.com/US/en/SBS2012/), & then spend $25 or more at a participating small business nationwide THIS SAT. (11/24) ONLY. Approximately 8 weeks later you'll get a $25 credit on your Amex statement.

Hubby & I plan to have dinner this Sat. at a local small participating restaurant. It's just a little BBQ place, so we'll pretty much end up getting our whole meal for free.
