I have only ever once worked retail (and mall retail at that) during the Christmas shopping season. That was 18 years ago.
Were I ever again faced with that as the only means of earning a living, I'd seriously consider cutting off my own arms and going on disability first. Those workers who manage to survive the crush of unbridled avarice year after year are some tough cookies.
I cherish my days off work, and I hate crowds - those things add up to no Black Friday shopping for me. If I have a day off, I want to spend it lounging, reading, riding, cleaning, or something I love. Fighting crowds for something anyone anywhere could buy doesn't sound like fun to me. I do like shopping for unique gifts, though, and buying from artists.
I have to work retail too (AT A MALL no less). I am not looking forward to it and am extremely grateful for my family who have said they will give me a lift so at least I don't have to tackle parking. I think my sister wants to shop it (crazy) but in her defense she's a student and only ever shops when she's at home. We wont be at home for Christmas this year, so I kind of get it.

Lol I got a thumbs down for saying I'll be staying home with my family. Hehe
Yes, I think the OP is having a temper tantrum because no one is sharing her BS Friday enthusiasm.
My opinion? As I posted on Facebook:
"It is just SICK for people to be so pig-grunting greedy the day after "Thanksgiving." 'Black Friday' is why it is now *acceptable* to go shopping in pajamas.
No wonder other countries think we are pathetically obnoxious.
We have regressed to being mindless hogs."
All of my holiday shopping is online or local small stores.
On any day of the year...trying to get me into a mall or large store is like trying to get a pissed off cat into a cat carrier. Limbs splayed, claws out gripping the doorway, hair standing on end and hissing and spitting the entire time.

In fact, if you have an American Express card, you can register it via a special promotion Amex is doing. Register your card
(https://enroll.amexnetwork.com/US/en/SBS2012/), & then spend $25 or more at a participating small business nationwide THIS SAT. (11/24) ONLY. Approximately 8 weeks later you'll get a $25 credit on your Amex statement.
Hubby & I plan to have dinner this Sat. at a local small participating restaurant. It's just a little BBQ place, so we'll pretty much end up getting our whole meal for free.
