I can't believe it...but my boy is going to be 3 in April! AHHHH time really does fly. I want to start thinking about my options for who I can send him to once he is 3, for 3-6 months to get him started before I find a trainer to work with him and me down in South Florida.

Anywhere is FL is really fine, as I would like the option of going to visit. Not super expensive would be great as well. I know the further north you go in Florida, the cheaper it is. As you know, forward and soft is key! I don't want someone who is going to be super rough and really bully him around, as I know from experience my boy can be a bit defiant, so someone who can handle that and not take out anger on him would be awesome

I think he is going to an upper level dressage contender one day and really want him started right. I have done some of the basics, he lounges with or without a saddle on his back, has had a bit in his mouth, and has learned to yield away from pressure on his sides.

Any recommendations? Can be a dressage trainer or hunter/jumper/eventer...just need forward and accepting contact!

We do young horse starting at our farm and have a terrific Dressage rider who starts them. She lived in Germany for 8 years and this was her job. She is very patient and slow and very soft. We are 30 minutes north of WEF. But if you are in Wellington she could actually come to you. Why don't you give me a call. As a breeder I know all the best young horse starters in FL. Have to!

Leslie is great, about 30 acres, doesn't back them in an arena, they are out in the field and must move forward. Can experience many things and can do pasture or stall board.

She does the $ by ride depending on the horse (3-5 x a week, depending on their personality) + board.

If you are looking for a fantastic colt starter as in getting him backed , going forward U/S , exposed to different circumstances. I HIGHLY recommend Don and Linda Coulter in Naples FL. They started all our families babies and do a fantastic job.

I thought I would suggest myself and Marjory Berkache, a wonderful young horse trainer that I work with that has a fantastic foundation in Dressage and has a great track record for producing youngsters for the three Olympic disciplines.

As you know, I have produced my own horses since they were weanlings and primarily focus on the Hunters and Jumpers, however Marjory and I work together to produce Dressage, Hunters, Jumpers and Eventers and have developed quite a partnership with regards to ensuring that each young horse progress at their own pace and to its top potential.

I can vouch for Dean Graham and for Andrew Wright (at John Brown's) personally... been around them for years and seen them ride etc. Both guys are great and I know that they care for the horses in their care.

I've been sending my youngsters to Christian Musch up here near me (mainly just because they are near me). He has Little Star Stables (in Graceville FL and he is mainly a Jumper rider). I've been VERY happy with the start on my kiddos - he has a nice light hand and the horses receive top notch care.
