Fourteen year old boy in critical condition. The hate needs to stop. All of you participating in the left/right, black/white/hispanic, Muslim/Jewish/Christian bashing...it needs to stop. Just stop. You can stop it right here on COTH for starters. Just stop.

Actually, the shooter is in his 70s.

Three people were killed and a 14-year-old boy was critically injured Sunday when a gunman opened fire outside the Jewish Community Center and a senior living facility in Johnson County.

Police arrested the suspected shooter, a man in his 70s, outside Valley Park Elementary nearby by 2:45 p.m. He smiled and reportedly made anti-Semitic statements as he was led away.

Two of the victims were a 14-year-old girl and her father who attend the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Leawood. The Rev. Adam Hamilton, the church’s senior pastor, shared the news with church members at the beginning of the evening Palm Sunday service. He said he has been talking to the victims’ family in the hours after the shooting, and they asked him to go through with the Sunday evening worship service.

Two of the victims who died were shot in a car at the community center, and one of them died at a hospital, Overland Park Police Chief John Douglass said at a press conference.

The injured 14-year-old boy was in critical condition at a hospital at 4:30 p.m.

The victims were hit by gunfire at the center at 5801 W. 115th Street and the Village Shalom senior living facility 5500 W. 123rd St. about 1 p.m.

The suspect in custody is said to be in his 70s. I wonder if we will learn that he has some form of dementia. I'm not excusing his actions at all, but to be blatantly violent against strangers while shouting Heil Hitler is beyond bizarre.

Or maybe it's not these days.

This link is suggesting that the 14 year old boy is the third death:

If he pulls the insane card and walks free like that piece of cabbage that killed Tamara's husband...

Guy in his 70's...yep, we'll be hearing how he's "not quite right" etc....of course, Holder said the muslim shooter yelling "Allahu Akbar" as he shot Christians, the crime was workplace violence.

At least they caught the guy, now let's wait for the excuses.

sigh. Overland Park is the nicest place in the whole area. There is a Jewish retirement home in mid town-south of the Plaza, that I used to go into as a vendor. I had to be buzzed in even 20 years ago. I can't expect they are less strict in OVPK.

And he killed two Christians -a doctor and the doctor's grandson. I wonder how he feels about that?

Unbelievable that in this day and age you could have so much hatred for someone just because of the color of their skin, their religion, their sexual orientation, etc. Sad that I still have to worry, in the year 2014, that there are nutjobs out there who would kill me because I'm Jewish. I can't get over that.

    Very sad.

It is sad to think that there are nutjobs out there who will kill you for the colour of your skin, your religion, because you are texting in the movie theatre, playing your music too loud, or wearing a hoodie in the rain.....
There are nutjobs out there who will kill you for absolutely no reason at all, and they have easy access to guns.

One of the things that continues to bewilder me is how a piece of dirt like Hitler continues to be venerated by some people.

I hope that given his history he won't get a free pass due to his age.

The 14 year old who was murdered was a former elementary school student of a riding buddy of mine. Like everyone else, she is heartbroken by his senseless death. The 14 year old's Mother, who also lost her Father in the attack yesterday, spoke briefly at a vigil last night held in a local church. She gave strength to everyone who were people of all faiths who had gathered to mourn.

The OP police department did a Top Tier job of locating the murderer and stopping him before he killed any more people. Overland Park is not a place where a gunman on the loose is common place, at all.

With any luck at all the murderer will spend what time he has left in Leavenworth just 30 miles north.

With his history, he just as well may have set fire to the church, or bomb it, or done mayhem any one way, guns or no guns.

I think that so many that protest today in the USA, on both extremes, are so very clueless what it really is to live under other than where they can be against whatever suits them.

Guess that is the cost of freedom, the crazy ones are also free and some do use that freedom to do harm.

Two Methodists ... plus a 53 yo Catholic woman, shot in the parking lot of the retirement home. She was on her way to visit her mother, who lives there. (Imagine the sad task someone had of informing her aged mother.)
