    Cool Weaning Part II

Looking at the Farmer's Almanac, this week is a great week for weaning. So we are taking the chance that the stars are aligned for us this time.

Danika is 6 months and 1 week old. Her poor mama is starting to show ribs and really couldn't care less if she is near her or not. Dani's Uncle Toby looks just like mama, except that he is 17.1h and has a sheeth instead of udders Dani loves hanging with Uncle Toby.

This AM I gave her a dose of Ulcerguard and turned Dani out with Uncle Toby. Mama went out with the ponies and got an extra feeding (mid-day snack).

so far so good. Dani isn't complaining and neither is mama. I have my fingers crossed for a much easier time. Hope everyone else's weaning is going well.

Yipee! Day 2 and all is well. mama is happy eating her hay and grain in peace. Dani is not as happy, but content with Uncle Toby for company.

Dosing with Ulcerguard is making me feel much better - note - I am dosing the filly, not myself

Counting down the weekend to make sure all is going well before I take a sigh of relief.

Woohoo! Going on Day 4 and all is "well"! Been giving my filly daily doses of Ulcerguard. Have been able to do 24 hour turn out for the past several days as weather has been fairly mild and all have healthy, thick coats.

Danika has been out with Uncle Toby who is wishing she were a bit more playful and wanting to go on the hill. Dani would rather hang out in the paddock closer to mommy. Dani has tried several times to nurse on Uncle Toby - who is NOT at all amused at her attempts

Mommy is getting 3 feedings a day since we did the weaning - she was really getting ribby. Small feedings, more hay. Will start off gradual and increase safely. She is totally fine with Danika being off her. The one time Dani went up the hill out of her sight she never even nickered!

I guess I will be weaning by the signs next year too!!!!

oppsie, that's wonderful! All together now?? PHEW!!!!

It sounds like everything has settled down and that everyone is happy, other than poor Uncle Toby of course...

Please read my thread (just posted), and can we all have an OY VEY!?!?

No, I usually don't send them to the Mods until January or later next month. They will be in a "Sticky" at the top of this forum and I'll post them in a new thread so you'll see them.
