    Default Horsey Wedding Pictures

I know we've had quite a few threads on ideas for horsey weddings. I got married in August and I thought I'd share a few of mine

The only truly horse related object at my actual wedding were the place cards: place cards
We used pony sized horse shoes, wrote on them with sharpie paint pens and sprayed with a sealant, then tied everyone's name and table number to them with twine. We set out a little bowl with horseshoe nails so people could hang them up. I'm amazed how many friends and family actually have these hanging in their homes! People loved the little keepsake and it was different then the normal paper place cards.

After the wedding, though, I got back in my dress and did a photo shoot on my horse. To my surprise, she could not have cared less about my huge dress and was very patient while I climbed on and got everything situated My photographer was fantastic. I'm totally thrilled with the shots:

We had a blast and I would totally encourage anyone getting married to think about doing a shoot like this. I would love to see anyone else's horsey additions to their wedding!

I am also jealous of the beautiful old white barn.

Beautiful pictures. Beautiful setting and beautiful mare!
This reminds me of my daughter's wedding in June 2011. She had our BO bring her and her Dad in a carriage with a huge Belgian gelding. Instead of favours, we made a big donation to the Donkey Sanctuary.
She also had her pictures taken in her wedding dress with her mare at a later date and they turned out really well.

DH and I got married in August at his family's dude ranch and his dad gave us a horse: http://www.flickr.com/photos/4722020...7631724495397/

Our Aussie was the ring bearer (I love braggin on this dog ):

We did our engagement photos with our horses so I decided not to take too many horsey wedding pics.

OP, I don't know what your first dance song was, but DH and I found the perfect horsey couple song. "Pony" by Kasey Chambers:

When I grow up I want a pony
I'm gonna ride her from dust til dawn
    I'm gonna brush her mane
    And feed her sugar cane
And keep her in safe from the storm

    If I had a pony
I wonder could I be your girl

When I grow up I want a baby
I'm gonna name it after Ralph Stanley
And I sure won't mind if it cries all night
Just as long as it looks like me

    If I had a baby
I wonder could I be your girl

    Yodelay he yodeloh oh
    You rock my world
    Yodelay he yodeloh
When I grow up I wanna be your girl

When I grow up I want a cowboy
With dust all over his jeans
    With a horse named Jack
    And a ten-gallon hat
He is nice but looks so mean

    If you were a cowboy
I wonder could I be your girl

When I grow up I'll be a lady
All my rings will be made of gold
I'll put flowers in my room
    I'll wear perfume

    I won't listen to rock n roll
    If I was a lady
I wonder could I be your girl

I'm jealous! My SO put his foot down and said he was NOT getting married at the barn. I suppose I can't say I blame him. So I wasn't able to get shots with the horses, but I'm planning to fly my photographer to my home to do a "wreck the dress" with the horses. That would totally be worth it, and honestly, I don't need my SO in those pictures....

054 (where you guys are kissing) and the last one are my favorites!

Your horse does well with looking good in photos too! Mine always look like mules...we can never get their ears up!

This is where my photographer was fantastic because Reagan wanted no part in putting her ears up. Apparently my photographer used to photograph cattle for auction so she had all kinds of great sounds to get her attention.

Those are lovely photos! Your horse has it's ears forward in every shot. How did you do that? When my husband is taking photos of us standing around at a show, my mare always looks like a sourpuss.

I especially love the shot of you cantering across the field. However, in the next shot, your husband did look a bit lonely standing at the bottom of the hill while you galloped away from him. My DH and I have been married for almost 32 years. He feels like I am galloping away from him all of the time. I just showed him that photo and he laughed.

Ooooh! Pretty! Also jealous of the white barn, and I love the green tie on your new hubby!

We did a re-shoot a few weeks after the wedding, me with my "heart" horse, and then me and hubby (sans horse, he really has no connection to the big guy). I don't have all of them uploaded, but here are my two favorites:

There are some other neat ones, too, but I haven't uploaded them yet. Both of those are going on my wall!

Thanks! I was thrilled with them, they turned out better than I imagined (and were SUPER affordable!). The photographer is a horse person (H/J, mostly) so had a good eye for angles on both horseflesh and human.

I also carried one of his horseshoes on the actual big day - an Irish tradition for my (very Irish) family, I wrapped it myself and it now hangs in our house.

Heinz, those are beautiful! I'd love to see the rest once you up load them. I love your dress

I've never heard of carrying a horse shoe down the aisle, that is a really neat tradition.

I love all the fluffy (tulle?) layers on yours! It looks so pretty draped across the back of a horse!

I wanted something fancy like that, but ended up with this one from Etsy for <$200 - including the fitting and alterations by a local, amazing seamstress it ended up being less than $500 - which made it less OMG when it got dirt and green horse slime on it later. And we just didn't have the money to make a huge investment on a dress, anyway. I couldn't believe how expensive some of them are!

The horse shoe is, of course, for good luck. I have one of my grandparents (Irish immigrants, married pre-immigration) wedding photos, you can see my grandmother's horsehoe wrapped in ribbon. My ring is actually my grandmother's engagement ring and has their wedding date engraved on the inside (2/12/41).
