Hello! A friend of mine has been using my rowels and can't find any that are similar. They are a very heavy metal, extremely good quality. I got them second hand so I don't know what brand they are but I thought they were over $100 and are from Germany. Does anyone know if there's somewhere online where my friend could get herself a pair? She bought a pair at a store but they are too light. We've been looking everywhere. Any ideas?
Please explain to me just why you or your friend think you need rowels on your spurs.
If you have an educated leg, the rowel is actually a kinder spur - it rolls instead of pokes and drags on the horse's side. I prefer the smooth rowels, but I hate a fixed spur! So many people look at the rowel and think it is harsh. Kind of like thinking a really thick bit is gentler - not! Try a rowel spur, you might be pleasantly suprised!
thank you everyone for explaining why we have rowels. They are not the massive western kind you see and we don't ride in them every day. There has never been a single mark on my horse from the rowel, it's not like they have sharp ends, they're very blunt.
Oh, and VTO has 20% off everything right now - I just bought another pair of the Stubben smooth rowels. You do have to spend $100 to get the discount (use the code FRIDAY), but that is awfully easy to do
