Sand Colic......What treatment/prevention do you use?
So my vet believes my horse's loose stools are a result of sand colic. She wants me to give him 1/2 cup of metamucil (sp?) a.m and p.m. for two weeks and then once each month for 5 straight days.
I have routinely given a cup of ground flax seed daily and always believed that flax seed could be used in lieu of psyllium to reduce the risk of sand colic. My vet disagrees and suggests that I use psyllium monthly in the future.
I will follow my vet's recommendations but wonder if anyone has any experience with either?
We live on the East Coast and have sand instead of dirt. The best thing we have found in Assure Plus by Arenus it's pricey but has worked better than Sand Clear or any other product like that. Our vets now recommend it after seeing the results!
If there are no pets in Heaven then I want to go where they went !!!
