    Default Weatherford's Mare Leah (R.I.P.)

My dear longtime friend COTH moderator Weatherford who lives in Ireland, a few hours ago lost her beloved youthful mare Leah to what initially presented as colic but most certainly was more deep-seated and complex.

Her vet was away. The vet substituting was unable timely to reach her farm, such that my friend had to watch her dear horse suffer and die, while being unable to do anything of substance to alleviate Leah's pain or suffering.

Compounding the nightmare was cold bad weather, deep mud in her pasture and the presence of Weatherford's pre-teen student who observed the whole traumatic sequence of events.

    Weatherford posted:

    "RIP Farney Leadora (June 10, 2001 - Nov 17, 2012)
May you find plenty of DRY green pastures over the Rainbow Bridge."

I cannot get her FB photo link for Leah to work and since I am not a premium COTH member I can't post a downloaded photo directly.

Weatherford has a great many longtime friends on COTH, and she can use all the support she can get right now.

I am so incredibly sad to see this.

Vale, Leah. And many comforting thoughts for Weatherford. And her student.

I've done every thing I can think of to get someone on site with hugs and hot tea or whatever.

Oh I am so sorry for your loss, Weatherford. Having only just lost my heart horse my understanding of the pain and guilt and devastation that accompanies a loss like this is all too real and raw. I cannot imagine witnessing what you saw and I hope that you can find some peace in the weeks to come. My thoughts are with you and your mare

So very, very sorry for your loss Weatherford. She'll have lots of wonderful friends to play with over The Bridge.

The loss is tragic enough, but to have been unable to prevent the suffering and having to watch it just compounds the loss exponentially. So sorry, Weatherford. You have my sincere condolences.

So sorry and so sad to hear, especially when they have to suffer. May Leah meet Shanya, a very cute young Percheron mare who was put down today by our friend. Colic sucks.
