C'mon, thumbs up/thumbs down is a good way to respond to posts that are merely links to videos and things like that. I like to acknowledge the effort of someone who has posted a video or photo here for comment (i.e., Mike Matson) but I often don't have much to say about it beyond thumbs up or down.

Some of the best, useful threads are between two experienced riders who disagree. I think it makes it easy for people to be lazy.

Why? If I really disagree or want t get a differing point of view across, I can still make a comment, it's not an either/or thing. And if someone posts something truly offensive/dangerous/stupid, a red thumb click can add to the dope-slap without a humpty-billion "This!" posts, or endless quotes and "what she said".

The same goes for agreeing with a well written, insightful post. A green thumb can take the place of "well said!" and I agree!!" a bazillion times over.

But as with everything else, don't use it if you don't like it.

What I do find weird is someone going back through old posts (like, 6-12 months old) and "disliking" them. Posts that are more about my personal horses... posts that aren't part of a conversation or opinion..... super effin' strange, and kind of stalker-ish, frankly.

I'm guessing the positive and negative thumbs on my last post is people attempting to figure out if agreeing means they like all the negatives on the OP or if a negative means they just hate it all.

I didn't think I would use the thumbs up, but I have been using it for cute pix, funny stories, etc to show that I am glad poster shared. That way I don't clog up the board, but poster gets the good vibes.

thumbs down for thumbs down, though. There are def. posts that I disagree with, but I would rather respond or ignore. Thumbs down seems kind of snide. Don't want to be like an 8th grade girl voting someone out of the club.

I think this stems from the "similar threads" recommendations at the bottom of the page. Some of them aren't really similar - just have a word or two in common. And some are older threads.

Thanks for letting us know. I am VERY directionally/technically/whateverly challenged and couldn't find this post. I'm glad it will be gone, though I would have been happy with just being able to disable my own notifications.

Personally, I might use a "eye roll" icon with your "controversial" posts way more often than I'd bother with a thumbs up or down.
