I'm a dressage rider whose been tentatively thinking about eventing... I have a very athletic young horse who I think would enjoy, and benefit from the variety eventing has to offer but I really don't know much about eventing myself - are there any "beginner" books or dvds anyone would suggest I read to get a taste for it? Ive jumped in the past but Ive never done any eventing... I have some good trainer referrals but before I make that step I just want to get a feel for it a bit if that makes any sense.... I think my main concern is I won't be brave enough!
Where are you located? Look for horse parks or large facilities in your area that offering schooling horse trials. Many of those offer intro or starter divisions where the jumps are small logs and cross rails (for intro) or 2' to 2'3" for starter. The bonus for you, as a dressage rider, is that if you go clear on X-C and S-J you will likely place well as dressage scores tend to determine the placings much of the time.
