Default Vandals cause horse's death in New Jersey

    http://www.nj.com/hunterdon-county-d...als_trash.html

This barn is only minutes away from my parent's home, in a safe, upper middle class area. I don't personally know the horse or the BO, but I saw that they have opened up a ChipIn account to raise money for a reward to catch these #*$&ers. Please, if you have a few extra bucks, consider contributing so that these horrible people are caught and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. The area has a HUGE horse population and I'd hate for this to happen again to another innocent animal.

if they catch them, i volunteer to be the first in line with a baseball bat.
My mare wonders about all this fuss about birth control when she's only seen a handful of testicles in her entire life. Living with an intact male of my species, I feel differently! WAYSIDE

I'll join in to punish the morons --- I'll bring a carving knife and practice my turkey carving skills.

I just don't understand vandalism in the first place, and this is beyond being ridiculous. What pleasure do you get from trashing someone's property and then basically torturing their horse?

While I feel for the owner, I suspect it was not vandalism, but a horse who got where he wasn't supposed to be.

Why on earth would vandals "rig"the gate?

If I remember correctly the barn door was locked and the owners didn't lock it. How could the horse have done that?

That's what the police told the owner. Very frustrating, the horse was outside in the field, how did he get in the barn and lock the barn door on his own, let alone let himself in a stall that was closed? Also supplements, grain and hay were strewn everywhere but none was eaten?

Whoever is doing this has been a problem for at least a year now, we're 5 minutes from this barn about a year ago someone smashed the lights we have mounted at the head of the driveway. They were beautiful fixtures, have been there for 30 years one they smashed the glass in, the other one they ripped off the brick pillar. A few months ago they slashed the tires on a neighbor's vehicle, a week later they did it again to the same vehicle.

I feel horrible for the Smalley's they are some of the nicest people, they would give the shirt off their back to help out anyone. Since this happened we've started locking our feed and tackroom. Only worry is if they let the horse loose out of the stalls or the fields, if they try to get rough with any of ours they'll be in for a nasty suprise.

Yea, it just doesn't add up. A horseman knows when his/her horses have gotten out or into something they shouldn't have. I've known a few horses that were regular Houdini's but this would be an incredible feat.

PS, Hi Juli! How are you doing? How is Jen?
