I have a 5 year old mare by Wiseman's Ferry. She is so sweet and sensible. She was at Finger Lakes until November, last raced in October I think, and I got her on christmas eve. I didn't start working her until May but she has done everything I have asked including long, large group, trail rides, a little event, and a hunter pace.
BTW she is on the small side as well at ~15.2 hands.

From seeing the bigger copy, it looks like he might have jumped the shadow of the wire at the finish.
(from the race comments: "jumped shadow at the wire")
He might have just been really excited, it was his first win

Great photo, I believe however he is for sale, not adoption. His registered name is Way of the Samuri and this photo is featured in MidAtlantic Thoroughbred Magazine.

Well, he's a CANTER horse - for "sale" by his owner/trainer via CANTER Mid Atlantic.

Great pics! Hee hee. I remember watching a BC Sprint horse jump a shadow years and years ago--first time I'd ever seen such a thing.
Ooh, found the race--it was Dayjur in the 1990 Sprint: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5an_VD-YCk He was in a nail-biting stretch duel with Safely Kept (one tough filly) and was jussst pulling away from her when he jumped the shadow just shy of the finish. It's all that was needed to get her head back in front of his at the wire. Incidentally, it was his first race on the dirt.
Warning before viewing--this is also the race where Mr. Nickerson died suddenly of a heart attack on the backstretch. When he went down, Shaker Knit fell over him and wound up breaking his back, IIRC. You don't see much in the video as it's shot from pretty far away, but still. Weird race, all around.

Wow - what a race Lauruffian. Isn't that the same year Go For Want broke down?

Yeah, it is. Rough day for the sport. I actually was done with racing for years after this, but I didn't want to cast a pall over this cute thread.
(Incidentally, I didn't realize the video linked above kept going for several minutes after the race--the TV coverage goes back and shows more detail of Mr. Nickerson going down from another angle, but you don't see Shaker Knit fall over him. The sportscasters mix the horses up, saying it was SK that fell. They don't include the footage I remember of the track vet being interviewed and bluntly saying, "Well, Mr. Nickerson is dead..." when he updated the horses' condition.)

Yeah, when I saw that photo I thought, "I'll bet he didn't think he was a jump jockey when he started that race."
Funny.
Is there anyone else out there who, as a child, dreamed of being a jockey and now that you're grown, you shudder and think, "There is No. Way. I could ever do that." I admire them so.

I galloped and broke Racehorses for a few years. Didn't really pay a lot, and sure did some scary things. Actually, I was supposed to ride in my first race when I got hurt a few weeks prior - a green colt swerved coming out of the starting gates, and my saddle slipped around the first turn. Ouch.

Ok, I really thought his name was Leapin Lizards. That's why one must always read the whole story

I have an awesome copy of a win pic from a rider friend of mine...he was riding a horse named Search for Summer at TDN in the mid 90's, and she jumped a shadow at the wire as a number of these other horses did. IIRC, he told me that the week before she had done the same thing and had cost herself the race. Thanks for sharing all of these links !
