Baffert and Laurel Park finally after 10,375 races ...
I have to say that I was fairly amazed at this
Dec 8, 2012 - Brigand Wins City Of Laurel Stakes For Baffert
This afternoon Bob Baffert sent a runner to Laurel Park for the first time in his career and his colt Brigand returned the favor with a front-running victory in the $104,000 City of Laurel Stakes.
Brigand, a son of Flatter who had placed in the Hollywood Juvenile Championship (G3), the Jerome (G2) and the Mike Lee Stakes, was winning for the fourth time in twelve outings. The win boosted his career earnings to $288,820.
Baffert, who has saddled five Preakness Stakes (G1) winners during his Hall of Fame career had never started a runner at Laurel Park before today. This was his 10,376th starter.
“Bob chose this spot,” said owner Kaleem Shah, who lives in nearby Vienna, VA. “He told me this was a good spot. He thought he would win and that was good enough for me.”

The report should read: Brigand, a New York bred son of Flatter... He's a very nice coltGood to see him get a stakes win.

You think the Maryland Jockey Club was going to cite that?
Ironically the NY TB Breeders in citing the news didn't make that language change either - Brigand wires City of Laurel for first stakes score.
Only with the last paragraph was the horse's state of foaling disclosed. Bred by Berkshire Stud in Pine Plains where he was foaled, Brigand is out of Silence Please, an unraced Quiet American mare.

Once upon a time the Laurel Futurity was a must on the East Coast calendar. Then Breeders Cup came along and it's now a minor, oft-as-not-cancelled stakes race.
There was also the Washington, DC, International, a 12f turf race which was also eclipsed by the BC and ultimately discontinued.

I remember watching Kelso win the Washington DC International on the tv. Fun times.
