Anybody use this brand? I had a rebate offer for it so I tried it and so far it's working pretty well, I would probably definitely switch and rebuy...if it wasn't for something I read online this evening. People are getting grain mites in the litter box after using this brand?! Anybody experienced this, is it true?

I've used Worlds Best, and it was okay. I switched back to clay because I found the smell rather sickening after awhile, even when cleaned daily.

The Blue Buffalo Walnut litter is far superior, IMO.

I'd not be terribly surprised to find mites in WB, since it is grain based...you can freeze the litter below zero for several days to kill them, probably.

Dog and cat both thought it was food and I couldn't stand the smell. I've known people who had problems with grain mites while using it.

I use it and I really like it (have 4 cats, 3 boxes) but MITES?!?!? Ewwwww.

My cat refused to use it and took to peeing on the couch. It was an unpleasant experience without the need for mites.

I tried it when on sale at Target. My cat hated it and messed elsewhere. Loves the chemical stuff.

If you want to trial cat litters, it's always "safest" to offer the new litter in an additional box - just scatter in a handful of kitty's established litter to get things started

Agree with this. I used World's Best for a little while, but the smell really got to me. I use the walnut litter from Blue Buffalo. Its clumping ability is not as good but the odor control is fantastic, IMO. (FYI I do clean the box out every day, and the World's Best smell was awful even with that).

I haven't noticed a smell with the litter yet, but I do scope a couple times a day and it's only been a few days. Definitely don't want a stinky litter with mites!!!!Thank you for your input everyone. I may give Blue Buffalo a try but the few places I've seen it it has been kinda pricey!

FWIW, I find I use a lot less Blue Buffalo than clay. It seems to absorb more, so the wet spots are smaller. I would usually fill a kitchen trash can (how big is that? 11 gallons?) with dirty litter in a week with clay. I do about half that in a week with the walnut stuff. Four kitties.

I haven't used WB in years and years, so not sure how that compares, volume wise, to the walnut.

I live in a teeny house (500ish sq feet, maybe?), and have two cats, and a litter box that HAS to live in my main living area (as there really is nowhere else to put it!). I love this stuff. I don't smell it, the cats seem happy to use it, and it doesn't seem to track around a whole lot.

I tried Worlds Best and at first the odor control was ok, but after a while, it just stunk. Plus it didnt clump as well, so I had to practically sift the litter box which was a pain. I think that is why the litterbox smelled so bad after a while because it wasnt clumping as well. I ended up going back to clay. And all is good.

I <3 Worlds Best! I use the multi-cat formula (red on the bag) and for my two cats it works great. I clean the box twice a day, after I feed them.. never notice any smell. It does track, but so did all of the clay litters. I just got sick of all the dust and how heavy clay was. WB is a bit pricey, but I use less of it and am willing to pay a bit more for my cats not to inhale dust all the time.

It's been a little while since this was posted, so I hope you see this. The grain mite occurrence is absolutely true. I used this brand as an eco-friendly alternative to clay litter, and I woke up four days ago to discover that everything in my livespace was crawling with thousands upon thousands of these grain mites. Through a process of elimination, the pest control company and I determined that the litter was the culprit, as these grain mites (which the company took back and had postively ID'd by their expert/lab) were introduced into the home from an object that had been brought in (i.e. they had not migrated in from outdoors). It was only after I opened the bag of World's Best Cat Litter that the infestation occurred. I called the company and they immediately issued a corporate-rote statement of deniability, saying that it wasn't their fault, their litter is sterilized, and they blamed whatever store I bought it from, as the site/cause of the contamination. I really hope people see this, because I wouldn't want this to happen to my worst enemy. I have bugs crawling over everything I own...and the cat litter box was literally a solid moving river of these bugs. Do not buy this litter whatever you do!

I use the Lavender scented WBCL for my three cats (2 litter boxes) and really like it... Cats like it, clumps well, does a good job iwth odor control (unless one of my girls doesn't "flush" well! ).

It can get dusty after awhile (can't all litters though?), but by then it needs to be changed out anyhow. I think of it this way, it's similar to horse stall shavings in how it "breaks down" after awhile, even with diligent cleaning out of wet & poo, so that it needs to be stripped/ emptied completely and rebedded once every two weeks or so. But I "bed" the litter boxes to a depth of just 3" or so, so that by the time they need to be "stripped" I'm not throwing out a ton of litter.

I tried using a cheaper corn litter (different company) and *hated* it, the ammonia smell was awful after just a couple days with daily cleaning.

Never had a problem with the mites thing...

I've been using this litter for a couple of years without smells, clumping problems or mites. One cat. The box is cleaned daily. Very strange. Are you in a warm, humid climate?
