Default Trainer recommendations wanted - Ijamsville, MD or nearby

    Hi all,

I'm looking for eventing trainer recommendations near Ijamsville, MD (it's a sneeze away from Frederick).

    Preferences:
    - No breed biases (I have an Arab and some people hate Arabs)
    - Involved with events/clinics/schooling/shows
    - Accepts trailer-in lessons
    - Is flexible enough to allow for 1-2 lessons a month on weekends and give homework

I'd love to be able to take weekly lessons but once a month is probably more realistic to the finances! I have my own trailer and prefer to keep the distance as short as possible (gas is expensive!). I'd like a place with a decent community where I could talk and socialize a bit with people who are a little more training oriented than where I board. I'd love it if they also attended events or hosted events or went off to school somewhere.

It's probably better to private message me directly with recommendations, though if you know of a place I should stay far away from, that is welcome information!

    Wow. Ijamsville is splitting hairs!

I would head to Destination Eventing on Rt 28 in Adamstown. Good trainers there, nice facilities, and seems like a good, bustling community.

Depending on WHERE in Ijamsville you are, it is probably about 30 minutes, maybe less if your closer to Urbana.

All of these trainers work with horses of all shapes and sizes. And I believe that they're all about 30 minutes or so from you. :-)

    Second vote for Destination Farm.

Kate Chadderton is in Woodbine MD. She teaches all levels of riders up to advanced. I know she's open to different breeds, she has evented a saddlebred to international level and a half pony to World Cup! She teaches at her own barn, but I'm pretty sure she travels to Bennetts Creek which would be close to you.

Highly recommend Sally Shirley. You can find her website if you google her name plus eventing.

I'd add KristenParris to the mix as well - she's in Mt. Airy; you could also try Sandy Lytle - don't know if she's teaching now (she gave up her pro status years ago but she may be teaching again?, not an event rider per se but one heck of a good rider/trainer and she's in Ijamsville. Her sister Cindy also teaches at parents place in Adamstown/Dickerson.

KPeventing, and lytleshowhorses.com - 2 more to add to an already good selection of trainers.. isn't nice to have so many so close to choose from
