Default Summer Bird is sold to Japan

According to Bloodhorse, the owners were made an offer they could not refuse despite the fact that he had very good books for his first seasons. I wish we would hold on to our horses a little longer to see how they pan out at stud instead of just selling them off so early.

This means of course he'll be the top freshman sire!

I was just coming to post this. I really loved him on the track & while his pedigree is not exactly unique, I think this is the sort of horse we should be running to breed to. Winner at distance, sound & competitive past three, with a pedigree full of producers of good sires.

I certainly don't begrudge Japan doing their business; they have the money & know what kinds of animals they want in their breeding programs, and you can't deny they're producing a great racing product. I just wonder at what point the American racing & breeding powers-that-be will compare what the Japanese are taking vs. what they're leaving here and say "Hmmm, now why is that?".

I wish him a long & successful career over there and I'll line up to meet him when he comes back to retire.
