She is one of the "100 Best American Heros". So, I am tired of bigotry in general and chestnut mares in particular. Too often labled hot and less than. Maybe its the trainers excuse for not delivering....???So, please list any famous chestnut mare of any breed and discipline you can. Two more are:

Brentina (dressage), and
Saphire (show jumping).

Sheila Varian dispelled lots of 'horse predjudice' in her day and especially when she won the "World" Reining Cow Horse on an Arabian MARE in 1961!!! Ronteza was bay but it shocked the 1/4 horse world and others as well that a woman on an Arabian MARE could do this. Ronteza even fell down with Sheila, but Sheila hung on and Ronteza jumped back up and did not the cow beat her. She won the "World".

I love chestnut mares! Particularly if they come from the Weltmeyer line!
Wansuele Suerte (by Warkant) is another famous chestnut mare, ridden by Hubertus Schmidt on the German dressage team for many years.
What about Whisper (Wolkenstein II) ridden by Hiroshi Hoketsu?
Girasol (Gribaldi) ridden by Nadine Capellman and Bella Rose (Belissimo M) ridden by Isabell Werth are both up and coming horses in Germany.

Not a famous mare, but I know of a lovely chestnut mare who has helped at least FOUR ammie riders get their bronze medals now. She has been in the USDF Yearbook almost every year with another rider and another bronze medal. A saintly mare who has earned her oats, proudly sporting her red head!

The funny story behind her - I didn't know the prior 3 riders, but everyone was wondering if it was even worth looking at her when she was for sale - being a chestnut mare and all. And by Weltmeyer (and they do have a rep for being tough). I found her in the Yearbooks and said "look, she's carried several riders through 3rd level, give her a chance". Well, she is a total saint, a beautiful mare, and very well loved!

I thought Touch of Class was bay? Winning Colors was grey. Rags To Riches, who won the Belmont Stakes in 2007, was chestnut.
