I, too, said OMG when I saw the picture and have been following this thread.

Jingles to your lovely mare, and to you, too.

I am so very sorry. If she has twins, I hope that the foaling goes safely and the placentas are safely passed. I am jingling like mad for your mare. Please keep us posted.

I am so sorry. Keeping you in my thoughts. I'm sure that you know this, but please make sure someone is able to watch her at all times until this is over. The baby should still be small at this point, but often they are not positioned correctly when these types of things happen (whether there are one or two in there). Sorry to be graphic, but wanting to help.

Jingles and sorry to hear. But, I read that mares can be re-bred and have normal pregnanies with a different stallion as there may be a genetic make up to this.

I'm so sorry! I think we all were hoping for a better outcome. All of us. Everyone here. Please know plenty of jingles are still being sent for a safe delivery and recovery...as well for broken hearts to be mended sooner rather than later.

Thanks everyone! She is being watched like a hawk for me while I am at work and through the night. I am hoping she will be her usual self and deliver at 11pm (like she did her last 4 foals) but I do know this is an exception to the rule of course and it can happen at any time. My vet is going to be out right away after delivery to check her over and the foal.

I'm sorry, I might have missed this, but is there a chance the mare is a hydrops mare? I don't want to scare you, but those mares really need to deliver in a hospital setting, as the rapid change in fluid balance can be life-threatening to the mare. In addition those foals often can't be delivered without assistance. Hydrops is one of the very rare cases where induction of delivery may be warranted. Hopefully this is not what you are dealing with and this entire tragic process can play out as smoothly and safely as possible.

Jingles for you and your mare and praying that you are not dealing with hydrops.

Hillside is absolutely right if that is the case. Your mare should have IV support during the delivery. This is a life threatening situation for her, not just a loss of the foal. I'm really shocked your vet is planning to arrive afterwards.

So sorry about your foal and praying for your mare.

Silvercreek had a mare with hydrops a few years ago. Barb might have some first hand info.
