She had a rough night last night, very uncomfortable. I last checked her about 40 minutes ago and she was happily munching hay. I will talk to my vet again today just to see what he thinks about the hydrops potential. Not too sure where I could even take her at this point in the game, the vet clinic I use to use has since closed. I snapped a few pictures of her last night and you wouldn't know it was the same horse she was so "small". Then this morning she was back to being "bigger" if any of that makes sense? I will try to post pictures.

Wow, I hadn't checked this thread in about a week and had no idea this was anything more than just a big belly. I had planned on posting some photos to this thread, as I've had three different mares over the years who looked identical to yours...everyone was sure they were each carrying twins...or triplets! They just happened to show more than the average mare. So sorry for your loss. Hoping the mare delivers safely and without further complications.

I don't think the vet school has seen this mare in person, so I think at this point it is a guess on the twin issue. Still jingling!

My vet has been in contact multiple times with Guelph over the last few days. They both believe my mare is carrying twins and that she doesn't have hydrops.

I am pretty sure she is going to deliver tonight as she is getting into her "ways" so I don't think moving her right now would be the way to go. My vet is on call and said to let him know what is going on. Actually, now that her belly has dropped she doesn't look near as big as she did even yesterday. At this point I am praying it is twins and all goes well as appose to hydrops. I did ask my vet if I should take her anywhere to foal out and he said not to bother with it. So I will continue to keep my fingers crossed!

From reading post 94, it appears that only the local vet had seen the mare at that point. I cannot find the right words to express my concern regarding his comment about "not bothering" to have a high risk pregnancy, whether twins or hydrops, foal in a clinical setting if at all possible.
