Default Newbie's Journey Continues... first dressage show!

So, a couple of months ago, I made the big switch from hunters to dressage. Many of you very kindly answered my first round of questions here: http://www.chronofhorse.com/forum/sh...rt-to-dressage

Everyone was so nice about welcoming me to my new discipline, I thought I would post a little update. We made our dressage show debut this weekend and had a ball Here we are doing first level, test two.

Good for you, you disloyal defector. Did you file for political asylum from Hunter World?

What did Nice Black Horse think?

But you post like a Hunter Princess still. You need to find your butt cheeks, if you don't mind my saying so. They post differently in dressage world. The "sit" phase of the post is longer. You can use it to speak decisively to the hind end in each stride. It's a good tool.

Haha, Nice Black Horse thinks it's all a bit odd, but he's fine with it anyway. And yeah... the posting thing is going to take a bit of time, I think. Not gonna erase 30 years of HP-dom in 60 days!!!

I know! It turned out that I didn't know how to post, AND I didn't have any body awareness. I couldn't dial in my butt and change it up to save my life at first. I still go back to old ways if in battle conditions.

    Very humbling and funny.

This made me laugh...it still amazes me when I find myself in two point without much fore-thought.

Lucassb - congratulations and welcome to the dressage world!

    ahhh hunter ankles !!!!

Takes a while to get ride of those, that is for sure. I dont think I really got the hang of the long wrapping leg for the first year

But isnt it nice having your own private ride time????

Good for you, I fell in love with dressage at the shows.

    loved the shows.

CONGRATS and Welcome to the Wonderful, Insanely Crazy World of Dressage

I still "perch" at the trot and canter...and have to remind myself EVERY-FREAKIN-STRIDE to tuck my rearend, use my seat and stay in alignment. It's an every day journey...and a fun one, at that!

Gorgeous turnout for both of you!

I really did love having a scheduled ride time. Although this horse is very easy; he has done a lot of showing in his life so it's all very ho-hum to him. He didn't look twice at anything

I am happiest with the 8's we got in both tests for our medium and free walks, and also with the 6.5 we got for actually being *straight* down the center line, LOL!! (Straight is still really hard for us!!!)

LOL! It is hard. I think almost all of us who started out in the H/J world could revert to a half seat at any moment, for any reason. What helped me "dial in my butt" (love that!) and find my seatbomes was lots of work on the longe, no stirrups, no reins.

Haha, my poor trainer certainly must get tired of repeating herself, but she's up against three decades of muscle memory, LOL. I am guessing it will take time, but I am certainly enjoying the process.
