Default Neatsfoot oil and dressage tack?

When I get new jumper tack, I always oil with neatsfoot as I just love the suppleness that comes as a result.
For some reason, I never do this with dressage tack, I remember being told it was bad, but is it really?
Im not going to drench the thing in oil, but I dont want to ruin perfectly good tack. does oil make the black dye come out or something?
    thanks in advance.

*bonus question: nameplate on dressage saddle yes/no?

I've always used Hydrophane, and never had a problem. I also use it on bridles, as it allows you to do a quick dunk in cold water, not a trick I'd try with a saddle.
Some riders change their horse, they change their saddle, they change their teacher; they never change themselves.

We always used neatsfoot because that's all there was. Since I discovered Lexol conditioner I love it. We'd use it on tack that had been raced in the rain and it kept it soft and supple.

Soak the underside of your flaps, that's the rough grain the will soak in. The top grain can absorb very little, so I usually just brush a light coat and then buff with a dry cloth.
Mink oil is my favorite. I have tack from the 70's that I still use every day that's treated with mink oil
