    Default Turnout Boots

I have never, ever, ever turned a horse out in boots before (other than bells), but I am afraid that my young gawky OTTB needs them, at least for a bit. He seems to have an interference type sore on his inside left front that doesn't want to heal. He doesn't interfere when I have someone walk him in a straight line for me, but I do think he is a little goofy in turnout and keeps reaggravating this small wound, so I'd like to offer it some protection to give it a chance to heal.

Can anyone offer any specific recommendations on a good turnout boot? Something that the barn staff can easily apply correctly, durable enough to withstand turnout, stays in place, etc. TIA!

If you already have a boo-boo to protect, go with fleece-lined boots. Anything neoprene will rub the scab off and get sweaty. I like my neoprene boots (Woof boots or similar) for turnout and riding just fine, but always use the fleecy boots for the occasional nick or scrape. With just two velcro straps, they are quick to put on and take off. There are many brands, most are just fine for turnout use.

Fleece is not ideal for wet or muddy conditions, though.
