    Default Way to go Maryland!

Yes on 6! Yes to same sex marriage!

Looks like Maine is likely a pass, too, and Washington is looking promising!

What an exciting time we live in

Default Really Proud to be a Marylander!!!! We are truly the "Free State"

But I hope one day in my lifetime that basic civil rights are never voted on and left to decide by people who it doesn't effect...It never ceases to amaze me the hypocrisy and the BS that has come out of the trying to defend the bigotry towards Gay marriage....just come out and say you are homophobic....don't hide behind religion, or free speech ( Chickfil-a nonsense) Last I checked not everyone is religious or shares the same religion or beliefs and we life in a secular country with a doctrine of seperation of church and state....if the Church wants to get involved in such a negative way in politics, then maybe they should start paying taxes just like everyone else....can you imagine voting if a black and white person could get married? Or if Asians could live on your street? Or if Muslims could adopt children? Really think about it...if you substitute black, asian, muslim, jewish, chrisitian, hispanic, women, for Gay in the unbeleivable undefensable defenses people make about not supporting equality for the gay community...I bet those who are not for marriage equality would feel really uncomfortable...making those same statemenes about another group of poeople and I bet no one would defend free speech then would they? of course not.

I'm not there now (thanks, Army lifestyle) but I am so proud of my state and all my friends and family who voted there. Good job, MDers!

Truthfully, I really have a hard time believing it had to be put to a vote. Not that I discussed it much but whenever I did talk about it my main thought was "what business is it of mine?" Obviously I voted for it but felt silly that I was even being asked the question.

I lean conservative (at least fiscally), but I firmly support gay marriage.

All citizens are deserving of the same rights.

Love should be celebrated, not denigrated.

I'm thrilled that our country is finally starting to do what's right on this issue.

    Good on ya, Marylanders!

Unfortunately, Florida is not quite as evolved. In the 2008 election, we had a proposed amendment to the state constitution that would define marriage as between a man and a woman. And it passed. So ridiculous. Marriage is a legal issue and has nothing to do with religion, so those who say it's against their religion need to remember this little thing called separation of church and state.

The great thing, though, was when the guy with the "Vote Yes on #8" (I think that was the number lol) came around. My mom and I had gone to vote together and when the guy tried handing my mom a flier and said, "Please vote to protect marriage," my mon looked him right in the eye and said, "Oh yeah, because heterosexual marriage has done SO well on it's own with it's 50%+ divorce rate. And don't worry, nobody is going to make you marry a man." I was pretty proud. The guy walked away without another word.

I saw something on Facebook the other day about this. It said: Asking you to give me equal rights implies they are yours to give. Instead I must demand that you stop trying to deny me the rights all people deserve.

    So true!

I had an aunt that was a lesbian. She died a few weeks ago. I'm sure she wished she could have married her partner before she died, but she did not
live in a state that allowed same-sex marriage. Really, really sad.

Another proud to be a Marylander here!! And I echo the other in that civil rights shouldn't have to be something that we need to vote on

You know, it's a little sad that two people "disliked" my first post, but weren't brave enough to actually post here to show what bigots they are.

I think we should also give some kudos to my home state of Wisconsin for electing Tammy Baldwin to the US Senate.

I'm proud of MD too. Gay marriage should be legal. What bothers me is that it even has to be an issue. If you don't believe in same sex marriage, don't marry someone of the same sex.
