Unfortunately, you have to open the notifications to see any PMs that have been sent to you. I am not a fan of this new system.

Maybe they're just messing with you (it wasn't me!).

Maybe I'm missing something, but while I don't care for the feature (I find it to be pretty pointless), I really don't understand why someone would feel "judged" or "stalked". Its basically someone either agreeing or disagreeing with your post, and given that the whole point of the forum is basically to discuss/exchange opinions, that is pretty inevitable.

The fly in that ointment is that you are not discussing anything with anyone when you don't know who or why they thumbed.
No way to address whatever their thumbing was about, nothing to discuss there.

On OT-Day, I would suggest an element of culture shock. Some people can't believe others have a different life experience and/or would disagree. Those who wish to converse will do so and are generally capable of agreeing to disagree. Those who seek to be offended will find a means to do so. C'est la vie.

It's like being "watched" while not knowing when or by whom. On the other hand, I shouldn't take it very seriously if they don't have the courage to stand up and say it to my face.

We are all being watched, as there are more lurkers than posters.
Without thumbing, the lurkers can have their opinions, but without expressing them, who cares?

When thumbed, either for or against, since you can't really know what the thumber really means, if it is personal or your writing or some of your ideas, you are left without a way to discuss and learn from it.
Thumbing really becomes irrelevant to any discourse on a mature level.

I would like to know how to clear them out of the notification box? I'm sure it's absurdly simple but I can't figure it out.

hmmmm....another one. On the same post. I'm chalking it up to a glitch in the system. No rational person would care about me THAT much.

Ezduzit (love this username ): Each person can only register one thumbs up or thumbs down per post, so it's not one person giving you bad ratings over and over again.

Was the thread bumped up? If so, as others have said, it is probably people reading through that thread without realizing how old it is.

LOL I'm guilty of giving thumbs up on old threads yesterday, I was looking for something and got links to old threads at the bottom of the page, started reading through them and there were some great comments. If they make me laugh, or go "Oh Yes, good thought" I will still thumbs up even if it old.

I must be looney, because I'm now laughing out loud at this thread. . . lemons to lemonade!

Thanks! I think I'm officially done worrying about the thumbs. If people can't be bothered using the other eight fingers to type a reply, why worry about it?
