History: Not wanting to eat.

Blood work 2 weeks ago good. Vet thought short bowel syndrome. Started on I/D low fat canned and dry. He still wasn't that interested.

Went to MSU today. Top of the list was lymphoma (which was my worry) But an abdominal ultrasound showed that there is a stricture at the site where he had the resection last Christmas.

So he goes in for surgery tomorrow morning to remove another chunk of small intestine.

Le sigh. Dogs. Love 'em. Hate this.

He's at MSU tonight and I miss him terribly already. I've only spent a few nights without him in 10 years and I HATE it.

Im glad you have decided to do the explore! In his case, sounds like this may be curative! Always worth it when there is a chance at a complete recovery, and no terminal disease attached!

Update as of Wed night:

Went into surgery at 9am. Out at 1. They opened up his stomach and found an "impressive amount" of foreign objects. Mostly paper products. Now I know where those last two rolls of TP went. It wasn't the movers. THey just put 'em on the floor and he ate them.

But that wasn't the real issue.

The real issue was that when they did the resection last year, they did a side by side on his intestines and that formed kind of a kink if you will. So because he continues to ingest crap he shouldn't, last year's surgical site is proving to be a bottle neck.

The took out 8 inches of intestine today around last year's site and did an end to end.

I will be purchasing him a basket muzzle. We can't do this on an annual basis.

TEchnically, there was no obstruction. But the distention in front of the site from last year was probably the reason he was feeling not so hot on and off.

Good news is that he wan't very "sick" this time--so no need for major extras.

HE should get to come home on Friday. I hope. I have to extend my stay here so we can make sure we're out of the woods instead of hitting the road Sat morning.

Would be thankful for ay reccomendations of good vets in NoVa!! I'm going to need one!

Glad to hear that he is doing well and that the vets were able to identify the problem. What wonderful care the little guy is getting. I also have a dog that loves eating non-food items, and paper products have always been a favorite (as well as anything cloth). I know how stressful that can be!

As far as NoVA vets... my family and I have used Towne Animal Clinic in Leesburg for the past 8.5 years and we love them.
