Default New Format: So we can now get anonymous "unlikes" here?

I got one of these for something I posted on OT day.

That seems pretty lame. If you have a problem with me, post that or PM me.

Mods, why are you allowing the anonymous "unlikes"? I think it's a recipe for disaster.

I dunno, I kind of like it. It's a way of saying "I think you're stupid" without having to take up bandwidth. Kind of like the "like" button is a way of saying "I agree with you" without taking up bandwidth.

NOMIOMI1 is just upset because her hatefulness isn't going without comment.

    But anonymous likes are okay?

Everyone clamoured for a "like" button so they could gather up approval from the unknown masses (or just be able to say "good one" without all the effort of posting it, lol), but getting a "unlike" from someone who dislikes what you have to say but doesn't want to go to the trouble of posting the what, where, why, or get into an argument (not that that would ever happen here!) is a very bad thing?
I guess my real question is why does it bother you one way or the other?

    See what I mean.

SN You have followed me to two other topics to post.

Do you see how this may make a body think there is some instability?

Let us agree to disagree and move away from following one of us around, mkay?

That's a little narcissistic, don't you think? I was already involved in several topics that you happened to post on. Just because I reply to you when you post your hatefulness does not a stalker make. Now, if all of my posts were in response to you, you might have a point, but they aren't.

I'm allowed to disagree with you out loud, honey. If you don't like it, don't post.

For the record, I think both are lame. Very high school, as another poster put it.

I guess I am worried more about the "unlikes" than the likes because it takes just.so.little.thought, effort or consideration of the other person's point of view to give a blanket and anonymous thumbs down.

There's nothing wrong with a reasoned diss of someone. But man up, show up and put your argument into words. Perhaps the OP or someone else reading along will benefit from your dissenting opinion.

I worry, too, because of the pile-ons here that have sent some perhaps decent COTHers running for the hills. IMO, the possibility of a torrent of "unlike" ratings makes those that much easier.

Hey, man, at least you signed your diss.

I'll grant you pissyness and courage, eh? Others only get a new option for pissyness.

Thumbs down Thumbs down - The Thumbs Down

I agree – there is a reason why facebook has a “like” but no “unlikes” – add anonymous – yeah, doesn’t seem like the best idea. All and all, the new format seems like it has a long way to go before the “kinks” are worked out.

Go ahead and “unlike” this post!

I wonder if they could remove the anonymous aspect? Keep the like and unlike buttons, but make it so that it shows who did what, the way Facebook does. Might be a decent compromise...

I'm not sure I see what the big deal is, so what if an anonymous someone doesn't like your (general 'your' here) posts. It's not like you can get kicked off the boards for being un'liked'. I didn't read a popularity clause in the forum rules.

From some back and forth with Mod1 on the BETA version of the new board, I think the thumbs down button is on trial to see how it goes. The thought was that we could cut down on the number of nasty posts if people could just hit thumbs down instead of posting a negative ranting attack.

But what does the "1 out of 3 members appreciate this post" mean? Does it mean 1 person clicked thumbs-up and two used the thumbs-down?
