    Default electric fireplaces/media centers

Anyone have/had a combination electric fireplace/media center? Did heat from the fireplace cause any problems? How did you like it? Any particular makes and models you liked/didn't like? I need a new stand for a tv and would love a fireplace but I don't have a place for both unless they are combined.

I don't know anything about them other than I've seen them and they seem to be a new fad. Home Depot and Lowes both carry them as seasonal items right now. Would I buy one? Probably not. The construction looks questionable to me and I'm not sure the actual heating feature would work as well or as safely as a stand-alone.

Yeah, I don't like the quality of the ones at Lowe's either. I've seen nicer ones at a few furniture stores. I don't actually plan to use it for heating and I'm happy with my heating system. It's the ambiance I want. Unfortunately, I don't have a place to put a stand alone unit.

Check out the ethanol fueled fireplaces. They are green, no vent and have a beautiful burn to them. They are sold in stand alones and then you can wall mount a TV above them. If you want to mount a TV above a heat source, try to get a low, linear one and mount your tv higher.

i bought an electric fireplace at christmas tree shoppe for 99 dollars. it looks like a little black woodstove and rocks. it's lightweight, pumps out the btus from the bottom so no worries about heating up the tv set.
i had carpenters build a corner fireplace hearth and we inset the little heater inside of the hearth.
it looks wonderful and works very well.
i'm having little fans installed on the ceiling beams to move some of the heat back down to body level.
