Color folks would love to know LOL
I think smoky brown is probably the most common term for the single dilute on brown. On another board we went on and on and ON on what double dilute on brown should be called, and some were just..ew LOL Brownlino? Ack!

Yes, I have been patiently waiting for an announcement. At the same time, wondering who gets to decide something like that. I suppose maybe the person who officially discovered the gene.

why does smoky indicate no Agouti? The "smoky" in smoky black refers to the dilute. The black refers to no Agouti
If you tested a smokey brown, the results from UC Davis would come back no different than a buckskin
Of course, because UCD doesn't look for At Test that smoky brown at Pet DNA and you'll get At?

Brownskin just sounds... ick lol
Buckskin has long been established, well before any knowledge of brown, literally going back to "skin of a buck" as a color

Do you know for sure she's brown? Was she tested black based or have a black based foal out of a chestnut sire? Or a homozygous black parent?
She looks like she could easily be chestnut to me. IMO

If she is chestnut where does the black mane & tail come from?

Sooty. It's not unusual for chestnuts to have dark manes. Or even be completely "dark".
This horse is 100% chestnut. Notice the black mane and tail

Same chestnut base color, just with the added cream gene to make here palomino

It's not really black, it's just really really dark red, and many darker chestnuts can appear to have a black mane/tail, or sooty can make it just that dark

This is my brown mare. Notice her brown muzzle and area around her eyes. She also has gold around her girth area.
