We can't we all just agree that rape is a gift from evil. Everyone gets to name their own evil.

Pretty sure JER meant that sarcastically.

    Now I'm just confused....

JER was being sarcastic when she said "Can't we all agree that rape is a gift from god?"

Now you're saying you disagree with her being sarcastic about this.

So you think rape is a gift from god.

If a loved one of mine gets raped, it's about HER. It's not about Mourdock or Ryan or Romney or Obama or you and your views. It's about HER whether she keeps the baby or not and I will fight to my dying day and beyond to keep her safe from busybodies like you who butt in and presume to order her what to do. It's HER decision. It's the ordering of what she may and may not do by those who preach "no government interference" yet insist on looking up a girl's vagina at every opportunity to see what's going on in there and order her what to do about it.

I disagreed with her attempt at sarcasm. Note I replaced the word God with evil.

Rape is a very serious subject in my opinion.

Ah, you disagreed with the use of sarcasm at all. Gotcha. Sorry.

Dr. Ron Paul in one of many Repulican debates stated that in medical school they were taught that once a woman became pregnant the DR then had two patients. Food for thought.

Actually, it's still about the woman's rights, unless you think she's just the oven. Oh, wait...

You asked and I provided Dr Paul's comment. It gave me pause as I have often wondered about the when it is a fetus a person. The medical world has their own definition. More to think about for me.

You can chose to consider his comment or not.

Not sure what that has to do with anything since Ron Paul went to medical school in what, the late 50s? I'd like to think medical science has evolved just the tiniest bit in the 50 odd years since then. I believe he also went to Duke, didn't he? A university that is affiliated, however loosely, with the Methodists. That would tend to color what they teach just a tad.

It certainly was a grand old time of back alley abortions and women dying from sepsis. Oh, and let's not forget the slut shaming and homes for wayward girls in case you were unlucky enough to get preggers!

Also, Ron Paul isn't a libertarian when it comes to women's bodies. Then it's all government, all the time.

Let's consider Dr. Paul's entire comment.

“No, I do want to make a couple comments because I can remember the very early years studying obstetrics and I was told — it was before the age of abortion. I was told taking care of a woman that’s pregnant, you have two patients. I think that solves a lot of the problem about, you know, when life begins and all.”

Paul went on to explain his experience with the 1960′s culture and that “the morality of the country changed” and “the law followed up.”
So that leads me to question if what's giving you pause is not, exactly, CURRENT medical science. In fact, an awful lot has evolved in FIFTY YEARS.

DH was taught (3 years ago) that mom is the priority. Period.

You are right, back then, before the age of abortion, both lives were considered important.
The question was general in nature and his answer was general. I would be interested in his training and opinion of abortion n the case of rape, incest or the woman's well being.

Personally I would prefer that abortion is rare. That we as a people take more responsibility in our sexual lives.
And more importantly in my perfect world no one experiences rape or incest.

I'm an EMT and was taught the same.

You do consider pregnancy, known and unknown -- and life-threatening conditions like ectopic pregnancy -- in patients of child-bearing age, but we treat fully-formed, oxygen-breathing humans.

To treat an embryo or foetus and not act in the best interests of the actual patient would be negligent and subject to licensure hearings and malpractice suits.

Then please do not hold it up as being the current perspective of the "medical world." It isn't.

Here is Ron Paul on abortion in the case of rape.

Get ready, I am about to say something different. In 1964 my late sister gave birth to her first child. I was 9. She had a rough pregnancy and they took a lot of X-rays trying to monitor everything. At one point during the delivery, the DRs told my late ex-BIL that they didn't know if both could be saved and which one did he want. He wisely chose my sister. Both survived, until my nephew was diagnosed with leukemia at age 2.5 and died at age 4.

Life is seldom the black/white or right/wrong world we debate on these boards.
