I have a three year old filly by Freestyle which I was thinking of breeding to Furstenball in 2013. She would be four then.
This would produce a 3x3 cross to Florestan.
Is that too close ? Any problems with this cross ?
I would welcome comments.
It would depend on what you are trying to produce (dressage, hunter, breeding to sell etc.) as well as the overall conformation/movement of your mare and what other traits she has in her background (her dam side). Since she is a maiden, you can't really predict what she will pass on so it will be even more of a gamble.
Florestan brings a lot to the table with respect to great minds, rideabilty and above average gaits however, he was not a "refiner" type and offspring can have less "legginess" than what some are looking for today. Furstenball has Donnerhall on both sire and dam side so you will have a lot of Florestan and Donnerhall which could equal a heavier type with shorter legs and possibly some loss in elasticity.... again, depends on your mares conformation/movement and what's on her dam's side.
I would be careful of "too much of a good thing" :-).
