Yes the kill buyers get horses there - which is why the horses get posted everywhere, because people are trying to get them sold out of the kill pen.

Glad the horse got a home. Maybe try contactin Lisa at Helping Hearts ? She's pretty local to the auction, maybe she can keep an eye peeled for you for a horse ?

Superminion- I saw that Iron Gait Percherons (Draft Horse Rescue in GA) Has aquired a new Belgian mare "from the kill pen in NJ" and I'm wondering if this is the same mare as you had interest in. You might still be able to adopt her!

Well? Did you get her after all?

They do not buy from the listings, so no I doubt this horse sold to slaughter.

While I've seen many, many horses on there I would have taken in a heartbeat if I had money I don't think I would look there for a beginner safe horse unless someone that personally knew that horse well recommended it. I'm sure most are fine but many are green broke, many were broodmares, many were just stuck in back yards for years, they may have mental issues or lameness issues and so on. Nobody really knows why they ended up there or what their personality is. It's a crapshoot. I'd look closer to home for a beginner horse so you can get to know it, maybe trial lease it, etc. Look for someone with school horses to sell, kid's horses outgrown.
