Actually I'm glad you reposted it, Freebird. I saw the other thread and couldn't open the photo. My computer blocked it as Malicious Spyware or something.
This photo I could open and see.
It is rather odd to use the girth as a breastplate and not use any girth.
You jump in the saddle,
Hold onto the bridle!
Jump in the line!

It looks like someone had no idea on how to tack the horse up properly. Not only that, but the shadows make the horse look like he's got some really weird confirmational defects!

One of my (very non-horsey) co-workers came back from visiting the in-laws in Missouri with almost the exact same picture, except her child was a girl and the horse was tied up to a (not permenantly affixed to anything) corral panel with a regular knot. (ZOMG!!!!!!)
When the phrase "HOLY S***!!! What were you THINKING???" popped out of my mouth before my filter could shut it down, she haughtily informed me that *I* was overreacting, and that as a mother she KNEW when things were unsafe for her child and her child was PERFECTLY safe.
Found out later that the horse was a three year old Missouri fox trotter that had only had about 30 days under saddle at the time. Where's that fruitbat again???
edited to add:
I just noticed the missing girth in the original picture. LOL! At least my co-worker's horse had a GIRTH!!!
The ninja monkeys are plotting my demise as we speak....

I didn't get past the child without a helmet sitting unattended on a horse tied to a tree to even notice the missing girth.

Lol saw one the other day with a little girl bareback, she was about probably 4 on a horse that looked like it was trotting with nothing on it. Not o a lead, no reins, nothing. Of course kis had no helmet either.
Horses aren't our whole life, but makes our life whole

I love parents who try to make their offspring Darwin Award winners before they can string half a dozen words together to make a sentence.
This photo is SOOO full of fail. Can anyone else picture what would happen to the kid if Dobbin decided to do a full body shake, dog style?

Not quite sending the child out to a field of ponies with a bag of apples, but close.
Some riders change their horse, they change their saddle, they change their teacher; they never change themselves.

Well, there is definitely someone standing on the other side of the horse (can see human jeans-covered legs on both sides of foreleg). ALMOST looks like someone's hands coming from the other side of the tree - but it DOES look like the lead is tied, and I can't determine whether the upper/right 'hand' is indeed a hand or a shadow or ??? in the sandpit. I don't think it's 'shopped, but everyone involved with this picture should go out shopping for a brain. Even one would help!
