From the O'Connor Event team site posted on 10/19:
Brian O'Connor's update on how Karen's surgery went yesterday: "Karen is in ICU recovering from a length (5+ hr) procedure to put in a rod next to her vertebrae (T1-T10), a bit longer that what they thought, but stronger and better. She is in good spirits, from what Max (the superstar) says, she may be up and about later in the weekend.
He attacked everything in life with a mix of extrordinary genius and naive incompetence, and it was often difficult to tell which was which.

Jingles from Ohio! I remember as a kid watching Karen and taking my breathe away! Karen O'Conner and Micheal Matz were the two riders that made me want to learn to jump!

Saw her yesterday at the PRO session at the USEA. She looks good and seems to be getting around great! That back brace has to be uncomfortable.
