She comes home today at 4:30! Whooo!

    As per ZuZu's request:

She may be a cranky, fat corgi... but she's MY cranky, fat corgi!

    She's very multi-cultural too!

Miss Whiskey is a whole new dog! She was *so* happy to see me! She immediately flopped right over on her back for tummy rubs, and she is tri-podding it like Mario Andretti! Apparently, this morning before the clinic opened, she got out of her cage, pushed through the double swinging doors, high-tailed it to the break room, and when they caught up to her, she was trying to jump up on the sofa to get to the plate of cookies I had made for everyone yesterday, on the table behind it.

It's hard to keep a good (read determined) corgi down!

They said she was one of the most well behaved (and apart from the cookie incident) well trained dogs they've had!!! (YAY!!) When she left everyone in the hospital had to come and give her kisses.

Here is a picture of the corgi condo I built for her today. This is her sister Bailey modeling it for me!

She's currently all curled up in the crate/bed happy as a lark. :-)

What a fantastic setup! And I'm SO SO SO happy to hear she is perked back up and raring to go! Isn't it amazing how fast they rebound? Hugs and scritches to Miss Whiskey and a big pat on the back to you for making it through ! (we all know it's harder on us than on them, right?!)

Sounds like Whiskey is feeling much better now. I'm sure she's so glad to be home with you. And needless to say, I know that you're more than happy to have her home.

Her little "condo" looks quite comfy. One suggestion though, when you're not able to be watching her, you should probably keep her in a smaller area. (This is what my vet had me do with my little guy after his FHO surgeries). You don't want any excessive, or the wrong type of movement/activity to cause her to damage the surgical repair.

Has your vet given you a timetable for her physical therapy/rehab exercises?

We do have a PT regimen already! 2x daily. 5 mins heat pack, then 5 mins leg extensions (forward and back) a little bit of *very* gentle massage, and then 5 mins cold pack.

Heat pack is met with joy, cold pack... dirty looks. LOL! One thing you can say about corgis, they certainly don't hide their opinions!

She's doing very well today, and right now is snoring happily at my feet.

The area has been modified a bit and is now about 3'x3'3" Sadly, Miss Whiskey is quite crate phobic, so just trying to make do with what we can. :-) (she's also about a low-key as a corgi comes, thank goodness! Her sister would have to have been hog-tied down by this point!!!)

Whiskey took a few "steps" today on THE LEG! She's been a pretty big weenie this whole time, refusing to do her PT and basically just moping about like an emo teenager. Then, a couple of days ago, she perked up considerably, and today, she used the leg! Whoohoo!!!

Here's hoping she tries again tomorrow. :-D :-) Yay!!!

Good update! Yay for the little princess . I'm glad that she's healing well. It does take time but once they realize that they *can* use the leg they usually progress very well.

She'll be good-as-new in no time.

Oh, and if she refuses to do her PT, since she's not that big, you could fill the bathtub and "swim" her in there (while holding her - sort of swimming in place). The swimming is a great, no stress exercise for them. This is one of the exercises my vet had us do after our little guy had this same surgery.

Well, we go in tomorrow to see the PT lady. I"m not looking forward to it, she sounds *Very* cranky, and as we ALL know Whiskey is a very delicate flower. LOL! However, the bathtub thing sounds like fun! I would have to make sure there was some video proof of this, because I suspect she'll have us in hysterics with her drama queen antics!
