Ditto everyone else, again. We seem to be back to square one, frequency wise. EVERY page, every reload, and occasionally on the same page again after being closed out.
This is flipping stupid. I know ya gotta pay the bills, but harassing your patrons ain't the way to do it.
ETA: I finally installed adblock. I tried to suffer through and give the powers that be a chance to rectify the awful awful pop-ups because I enjoy the side ads on CoTH and want to support the site by clicking through those, but this has gone on too long. I already miss those side ads. Not sure how much CoTH will miss the revenue I generated by clicking side ads, but they'll notice when we've ALL gone adblock.
Such a foolish move.

The Dodge ads are now popping up on every new window. The script also freezes Firefox with every window change, also.
I'm sorry that I am now blocking ads for COTH. The ads are increasingly invasive and make operation of the website difficult.

Ditto this. They pop up every single time I go to a new page. I am a premium member and have also subscribed to coth magazine since the mid-70s. I will pay extra to get RID of these horrifically invasive and irritating pop-ups. I will never buy anything from a company that uses the pop up method. Please, please, COTH, get rid of this.

Ditto what everyone else says. The Dodge and Gator ads are now popping up with every new window, and a day ago, froze my computer. I appreciate these forums, but the pop up ads are very, very annoying, invasive, and making me resistant to clicking on any ads, let alone ones for Dodge and Gator.

This is seriously getting infuriating.
CoTH, please let the advertising team know that I've now blocked all advertising. So not only are the popups gone, but all of the sidebar stuff.
I do not know if CoTH gets a small percentage of sales resulting from someone linking to an advertiser's site straight from CoTH (some websites do); if so, these popups are going to cost you any revenue from me. The ad department needs to know that I'll be going straight to an advertiser's website from Google now.
And Dodge and Gator can bite my left buttcheek.

There are many products that you can install to block (all) advertising. Adblock is probably one of the most commonly used ones, and it works quite well. Google "Adblock" and then simply select the version that works with whatever browser you are using.
This obviously is not a feasible solution for those who access the site on computers that they don't personally control (like those who are using a work computer, where frequently end users cannot install other programs) but for personal equipment it is a quick fix.
I am glad to hear that the trial of these pop up ads is ending in a couple of days, and I hope even more that the COTH folks will decide not to pursue that sort of advertising on the site based on the results of that trial. But I also recognize that the site is expensive to run, and the alternatives might be less palatable to some users... for instance, many other sites offer ad-free pages only to subscribers.
I do miss the static ads that I used to see on the right hand side of the page, but I couldn't deal with the intrusive nature of the popups any more, and installed the adblocking software. I am sure many others did the same, which unfortunately will impact both the static ads and the pop ups alike. If COTH indicates that they will abandon the pop ups, I will uninstall Adblock, but my guess is that not everyone who installed it will follow suit. Web surfing without ads can get addictive.

Ugh. Every single page right now. And now it's a new one?! Ford?!! I am very disappointed to see them join this bandwagon.
I'm also quite curious, mods, if this is just a trial and supposedly ending in 2 days, why on earth is there a brand spanking new company joining in? I've not seen a single person mention a Ford ad, and I've certainly not seen any Ford ads. So they purchased ad space for 2-3 days? Or are they not actually ending this month.

Yes, very bad today on my iPad. I shall have to go use my PC where I have ?AdBlock installed to deal with this. Beyond annoying now as the ads are showing up on every page, and sometimes come back on the same page where I have already closed them. And I'm not seeing Dodge so much, as all seem to be Ford ads today.

Hate these things. Will be installing adblocker and will no longer be clicking on side bar ads. Shame as they have proved useful in the past.

Yep. It is so bad on my iPad I don't even want to come to the site anymore. I paid for a premium membership and I feel like I can't even use it.

I just added adblocker to my Chrome browser. No longer will I click through the banner ads to get to SmartPak and Dover. But those popups were coming up on every single page every single time.
Someone let me know if they take away the pop ups and I'll remove my ad blocker. but until then -- no way.

Ditto.
I work in online advertising. Ads like this are usually sold on an "impression" (or view) basis, not a "click." That means that the advertiser pays based on how many times an ad is viewed, not clicked. They also usually have a "frequency cap", meaning that the same user should only see the ad a few times per day or week.
Obviously I have no insight into this particular ad run, but if I were an advertiser, I'd be really upset at the implementation and frequency of this campaign.

At another forum I visit, they implemented some seriously intrusive pop up ads. So the people who run the forum came up and said,
"look, it's making us money and we've set it so that you will only see it and then have to close it twice a day. Please help us make money by not installing ad block and clicking on the stupid thing twice a day."
I'd be happy to see and close that g-d ad once or twice a day, especially if it put a few fractions of a cent in CoTH's pocket. But to put it on every single page all day long -- well, that's just going to piss me off.

Ditto.
And this new format as of this morning (or at least from the time I last logged in), STINKS now, too! Harder to read and find stuff. Reply box is now in the middle of the discussion (under the post you're replying to) rather than at the bottom (sure hoping the reply isn't embedded in the middle of the discussion), so if you scroll to check other posts before hitting "Reply", you have to hunt to find your post.
Oh, sure those "thumbs up/down" icons are a cute addition, but why change the format so drastically overall?
I am OUT of here until at least those stupid pop-up ads are gone. Then I will have to decide if this new format is worth adjusting to and reaching for my glasses every time I want to read COTH.
So disappointing.

it would be safe to say I have seen the ad no less than 16 times this morning.

Add my voice to the crowd of disgusted users getting popups that interfere with my text display and block what I'm reading EVERY PAGE. No one wins when we all install ad blockers. (Using Windows 7 and IE.)

Add me to the group who won't generate a nickel of advertising revenue going forward. I periodically do click on ads when there's something of interest to me over on the sidebar and have actually bought from those click throughs..... I just got AdBlocker. Problem solved.
