I'm actually in Wisconsin, and I think this horse would sell for around $5,000 right now (if he is sound and passes the vet), and probably a touch more with some more progress on his jumping and the installation of a lead change.

A lot of people in some areas of the country don't seem to think that horses are worth more than $1,000-$2,000 unless they have show experience. That's not been my experience in Wisconsin at all, fwiw.

Agree, this is a nicer horse than a $2,500 4H type. Even without a jump it has other skills and would probably be worth around $5k if it can W-T-C and walk-jog-lope in decent style, just as an open show all-around type. $5k will buy you something competitive locally in breed-type open shows, but you are unlikely to spend much less for something trained enough to go out and start winning at that level.

So I am planning on putting more riding time into him and trying to sell him next year (and possibly showing him a little in the spring/summer).

He's super nice and uncomplicated to ride. Stands to be clipped and for the farrier and vet with no issues. Cross ties, rides out alone, but can also go in a group. He's at the bottom of the pecking order in the herd. As long as you haven't given him a reason not to trust you, he will do anything you ask. Definitely could be a great ammy mount for someone.

I'm working on getting him to use his hind end and round his back, but I'm working against his original training (western pleasure) and his conformation, so it's slow going. I've been riding him fairly regularly for the last month and a half and have been surprised with what progress we have made.

I live in the Midwest, Wisconsin to be more precise. Would be advertising him as a HUS/equitation and low level hunter over fences horse. How much could expect to get for him and how much should I ask expecting someone to want to barter a little? I understand that the market could fluctuated between now and then.

Videos and photos in my blog (link in my signature).

Just to be clear I am not trying to sell him now. I'm just curious as to what I could expect to get for him.
I keep re-writing this trying not to make it seem like an ad...

For a little perspective... I am in your (exact) area. I have a sale horse right now who is an appendix mare, about your guys age, a little shorter, easy, does everything you plan on your guy doing next summer and a lot more. We are asking $4,500 for her, are not in a hurry, and even THAT price is negotiable. That market just isn't there in our area right now, not unless you're willing to get him out to several A or B circuit h/j shows and do well. There are just too many lowel level QH-type horses out there right now for less to be able to get the kind of prices you mentioned

Feel free to pm me if you have any questions or anything!

eta- this is coming from a h/j & eventing perspective. I fully admit to having no knowledge whatsoever of the QH world/breed show market, so I'm not sure what you could get for him there
