Officially introducing...Valentina! BLOG UPDATED 10/9
Thanks for everyone's support on my last thread about taking a cushings pony. She's home with us, and doing very well!
If she lives for one more day or ten years, it will have been worth it. My daughter is so in love, it melts my heart.
I'm keeping a blog so I can chronicle her progress.
So, here it is!

Thanks. We just love her. I want to cry every time I hear Lily whispering to her. She tells her how beautiful she is, what a good pony she is.

Aww, what a lucky pony and little girl.
Give TC Sr. a try; very low NSC and beet pulp based to help with her weight. And easy to chew too.

^ Just bought some yesterday, as a matter of fact! Going to mix it with the complete until that's gone.
Also thinking about Gleam N Gain 60, as a supplement. Cheap, high fat, and low carb.

Thanks all, they are very lucky to have eachother!
Ordered the Gleam n Gain, should get here tomorrow. Love smartpak, they price-matched it for me! yay!
She loves the Senior, which is great. And she's loving the timothy pellets. she's getting mostly timothy pellets, with about a cup of alfalfa pellets, until they're gone. She's eating all the hay, which is awesome!
She does NOT love shots! She needed her third botulism vaccine, and she flew back when I put the needle in! Had to kinda chase her in the stall and quick zip it in!
However, she takes her dose syringe of prascend like a champ! Go figure!
She's got the nastiest smelling feet so I've been really diligent about cleaning them out so they can air out, and putting hooflex in there.
Other than that, she's great!

What? You mean crushed in an oral syringe? My guy just eats his, although I will admit I usually hand feed it to him with a bit of grain to make sure he gets it....are you syringing her just to be sure she gets it or won't she eat it?

I like knowing its going in. And she doesn't mind it, so I figure, why not. I don't crush it, they dissolve very quickly in even cold water.

I updated the blog, in case anyone wants updated pics! On my iPad, I can't caption the pics, but the first one on the blog is her first day pic, and then later on, you can see her 10 day.

Wow, I have to take more pictures of my pony to show you. I think they are long lost twins....! They really don't look much alike, but that skinny, lost muscle appearance is identical. Hard to tell for sure but your pony looks like she has the little fatty deposits over her eyebrows as well, which gives them a similar look to their faces, too. I wonder if Cushings experts can spot this a mile away?
Is she sound on her feet? My guy had a massive laminitis/founder episode that we are just coming out of....I am wondering if it is better to "force" some light exercise, or just let him recover fully. My gut tells me it is much safer to let him recover on his own - I think I will wait until spring before asking him for anything beyond what he is offering at will.
But I will be very interested to hear how your girl responds to the meds and the new feeding regimen as well as some light exercise - especially if she regains some of her topline and hind end muscling. I am really hoping that both our ponies will be fat and happy this spring! (Ok, maybe not FAT, but no ribs & hips showing, either!)

S- only you know of exercise would help. If he's not sound, my guess is that it might be better to wait. I just think that a little work for my girl, and we're talking 10 min max at a walk, will help her not only gain muscle, but get her back into riding mode.
Farrier will be out this week so I'm hoping that will help even more!
