A year ago at JumpStart, my daughter tried a horse for sale during the schooling allowed when the xc competition was done. He was a cute little bay gelding, and we bought him. Mickey, a former OTTB who'd evented as high as prelim, was about as different as is possible from the beloved but elderly, slow, and unathletic QH on whom she'd been eventing. It took quite a bit of time, and a lot of patient work, for her to learn to ride him. Yesterday they capped a solid dressage test and a nicely-paced clear stadium round with a stellar xc, exactly on pace (a big challenge for them), lovely to the jumps. They were so happy together! I was really proud of them.
