Default Broodmares - Then and Now

We just finished taking new pictures of our TB broodmares. I love comparing their current photos to the photos from their arrival day. I know of several other breeders who have taken chances on mares that were not in the best of condition or looked a little rough, so how about we post the before and after pictures of our gorgeous girls. I love seeing the wonderful changes! Please share your beauties!

I'd love to have any of your broodmares as a riding horse - they are lovely, although I have a soft spot for chestnut tb mares

We've been really lucky with our broodmares and have purchased them from wonderful owners who really cared for them and looked after them well.

This wonderful pony mare by our pony hunter stallion Penrhyn Sporting Chance fell into my hands last February in Florida and a huge thanks to Sandy (Sugarbrook) for taking her in while she awaited transport home. The first photo was taken shortly after arriving at Sugarbrook in Florida. The second photo was taken this fall up in Alberta with a 4 1/2 month old Blue Who filly at side. She won the 2012 Stars of the West Sport Pony Challenge Cup Finals Reserve Champion 3 & Over.

I'll play. This is Galiba about two weeks after I got her (mind you she was only 2.5)

Here she is at 4. Should probably do an updated conformation shot now, but she's starting to show a belly.

I am always so proud to share one of our broodmares transformation and rescue pictures. When I got her nobody could understand what I saw. A 14 year old mare who was easily 250 lbs under weight and was missing a good portion of hair on most of her body. I got her home and quarantined her. I had the vet out right away to address what I aSSumed was some kind of mange and a huge wormy belly!! My vet got there told me her teeth we horrid, that the missing hair was from a stress disorder. Her tail had been chewed past the dock. It was so sad. He gave me some suggestions for a worming program and asked if her could palp her while he was there. Guess what??? Yep she was within 2 months of foaling!!! I freaked, collected myself and move forward. He suggested not doing her teeth till after foaling. I soaked everything for her to eat and she started to put on weight. In march, she delivered a beautiful, healthy filly(thankfully) It was a slow long road. But to look at her now, you would never know she was the same horse. She still has scaring all over her body where hair will never grow back but she has just blossomed here. We adore this beautiful mare and are very proud to have in our breeding program
