The Walking horses were at the GIHP this past weekend, we were there for a GHJA local show. This is what we saw:

They loaded for me. All they show is a few clips of padded walkers working in what appears to be a warm-up ring. The horses looked fine to me- ears up and moving forward.

Same here. Although definitely not my cup of tea, I suppose hunter or quarter horse warm-ups may seem offensive to them.

Can someone please explain the reason for the HUGE shanks on their bits? It seems like they ride with an awful lot of contact for shanks like that

There is something grotesque about humans using devices like those huge Herman Munster plantation shoes to make a horse move in such an unnatural, exaggerated way. It looks like it does a number on their hocks, not to mention there's something a little creepy about the way those men ride way back on the horse all hunched over like that. Ew.

I've read that there are more eyes on these horses now that the issue of soring has been exposed through the media. I hope so. I've only known two Tennessee Walkers but they have both been very sweet natured horses.

Not my cuppa by a long stretch but at least the horses looked 'happy'. No one was using a 2X4 as a bat and a horse's head as a baseball.

The horse in the first video with the lady riding is a 2 year old TW filly named Lucy. She looked terrified. The second video of the man and TW kept going around and around like in the video.
The last vieo was showing what was on their hooves and chains on the pasturns.

Yeah. In all my 60+ years, I've never been able to figure out why anyone would want to do this to a horse. Especially one who naturally moves so elegantly on his own.

While when I rode Walkers they were flat shod for field trialing and I in general disagree with the way show Walkers are shod etc, I do not see any evidence of abuse in these short blurry clips. I would never do it to a horse of mine, but I just don't get what these videos are supposed to convey.

Exactly my point...what is the point of the video's. It may not be everyone's cup of Tea, but I see no abuse of any of the horses. and I might add, the poster who said that the 2 year old Filly loked terrified..needs a eye exam!

Do I agree that padded horses are sortof ridiculous? Yes.

Do I think they are all terrified? No. Look at the quiet eye on the first horse in this video, even if you go no further. It's not an empty, dejected eye. He's just- quiet.

Katerine, you might add that if you are at the quarter horse Congress in Col. Ohio...go watch the quater horses warm up in the outdoor arena. Look carefully you will see SCURF on the lower legs of the horses...not all, but some. Scurf=a result of the Fix on their pasterns! Don't tell me that isn't true...every year I go the Congress and every year the same thing. We are usually with a group of Walking horse people and we just look at each other in total disbelief!!

We don't need or want these kind of horseman in Georgia.

The horses we saw moved liked the way this man made his horses go, it is not natural nor can you tell me you can humanely train a horse to do this.

We were there she looked terrified. You weren't.

Padded horses ridiculous you say? Its not ridiculous its cruel.

It must have been the man in your video that we saw, so sad...
