There are a lot of questionably sound horses in this class... I've seen at least 2 already that are pretty obviously lame

    Makes me sad

Yeah the one who actually made it clear the first time, pretty much gunned it and let his horse actually jump instead of death gripped their face.

Ok good, I am not the only one. This jr/am class is terrifying so far! I'm from Canada so I'm not super familiar with the "circuit" but is this the first indoor show of the season for many of these riders? That would certainly explain why they are having trouble coping with the (extremely!) tight indoor course after galloping around huge outdoor jump arenas all summer? Either way, for riders riding 1.20m (or is jr/am 1.30?) there are some SKETCHY courses going on! Horses seem very spooky and tentative as well!

This is 1.40m... and remember, you don't have to qualify for CC, so there are some people in this class who are not qualified for the rest of Indoors

Since Tori's horse stopped when they had a steering malfunction at the end of the ring... isn't that a refusal??

Ahh the qualification makes sense. Are there many big indoor shows prior to this one? It seems like everyone is having troubles with the course, even Victoria Colvin had a rather rough go of it, having to go to the stick several times and still having a refusal, which is why I was curious if these horses are largely coming off an all outdoor season.

And re: the steering malfunction, not sure of US rules, but I am fairly certain for EC/FEI it has to be a complete stop of forward motion to be considered a refusal?

No, this is the first big indoor show.

yes, I do not believe the horse stopped all forward motion.
As an aside to my earlier comment, maye some jumping without stirrups is in order for these riders??
And yes, I have jumped that high (in my younger years..lol)

But can I say kudos to Alex Crown for running her stirrups up and walking her own horse out of the ring!!!
At last, a bit of horsemanship!!!! even if under unfortunate circumstances!

To those who say Tori's leg isn't tight, she just finished the jump-off with NO stirrups after the horse tripped and still won by more than a second.

Victoria Colvin is my hero. I don't care what everybody is saying about eq and releases and position, the girl can ride circles around most of us. Her poise tonight without irons was amazing

Yeah, I believe Tori practices plenty, she is a truly gifted, hard working and dedicated rider.

Are there actually people who say her leg isn't tight? They must not be watching very carefully!

Oh, yes, plenty of people on this board love to lament her "swinging leg" and "laying on the neck" in the hunters. I don't care what she does, 'cause they sure jump well for her (and tonight proved that her position in the hunters is not due to lack of strength).

Funny how it seems to escape the notice of some people that when she shows in equitaton classes where her position actually counts in the results, she's pretty darn correct.

The truly talented are not confined to "position" like us mere mortals!
