I order a saddle back in July that has been back-ordered now until mid-November at the earliest, and so I have been without a saddle since July. The saddle is not of high-quality and hedging bets that it still may not be available even by mid November (I was originally told mid-September) so I am cancelling my order.

I would very much like to ride my horse, however, finding a saddle is tricky and I don't have a ton of dough (would prefer less than $2500) but I am quite tall (inseam is 36") and having spent 20 years with h/j, I really prefer a flatter seat.

Dressage saddle guru's, what say you? Thanks in advance!

I have 36" legs (19" femurs), prefer an open shallow seat, and have never paid more than $1200 for a saddle.
Go get yourself a Passier. My favorite model is the grand gilbert, which can be found used online from $800-1400 in excellent condition all day long.
I also like the Albion Style, and a few of the Customs that aren't too deep

I love my Stubben Aramis. It's 20yo, but still awesome. $300 on eBay. The current similar model is the Genesis Special D. Shallow seat, minimal blocks.

Here are some photos of the Genesis Special D from Stubben. It has a much more sizeable cantle than the old(er) models and IMO does not qualify as a 'flat seat' any longer. A Tristan (older model) yes, but the GSD - no way. I picked up 2 Tristans about a year and a half ago - 1 was $150, the other $500 - virtually no cantle on either one.

Another vote for the Passier Grand Gilbert. 6' tall here and I love how this saddle fits.

Another vote for the older Tristan from Stubben, and I know they can custom make a saddle with a flatter seat as a friend had one made this spring.

That's RIGHT! I'd forgotten that saddle! Here are some photos -

And from having ridden in it (31cm tree), the twist was a-OK for me and it was much flatter than a standard Genesis Special or the standard Genesis D. Since it was so flat in the cantle and no knee rolls, it would have been fine to jump a decent sized fence with shorter leathers.

LOVE my Frank Baines Capriole! I also come from a h/j background so like a more open seat. Mine also has removable knee blocks.

I also vote for the Passier Grand Gilbert ... super comfortable and excellent for people with long femurs. There is a ton of them on ebay since they are sort of out of style now. I love mine.

Hey, you have my saddle! Luckily, with oiling they darken down from that bright tan/orange color.

Hate the deep seat, hate the rolls/blocks. I also <3 brown.

The saddle I have is $$$ & came with my mare, got it for half its worth & it has been fitted for her, but not me. If at any point I get a chance to replace it, I want one like this. Flat.
