Does anyone have a favorite footing for outdoor winter riding? Looking into this for a friend (and my far into the future farmette). I have heard rubber is really good and also heard shredded roof tiles??? I believe they absorb heat and thus don't freeze. Just wondering if anyone here living in the north can use their outdoor rings all year round, provided the snow is scraped off? Thanks!
I believe the solution is to move south. Sorry, don't have an answer. I asked this question last year and pretty much you need something covered. I was wondering if tiling my arena to help it drain would help.
I got a lot of suggestions to ride on the snow when it packs down. Last year here in Michigan we really didn't get as much snow as normal. Heck I only plugged in my water trough heaters for one week out of the whole winter. My problem was mud.
You can only ride a path on the snow for so long before it gets slippery. I actually rode the horses around our circle drive in the back. Back by the barn it once had gravel but is now covered by dirt and grass. It worked ok. Better then my arena.
