I was watching a TV show (fiction) and they were talking about witness protection and it made me think of a question. I was curious to see what people would say out here.

If you had to go in witness protection, do you think you could give up your horse addiction to stay safe?

Part of me says I could, another part says I'd try a different horse sport and hope they couldn't figure it out. I wouldn't show, but I'd have to be around horses in some way. Maybe teaching minis to drive.

I would definitely stay in horses. Maybe go and do cutting? I've always loved cutting..like the two times I've tried it.

I'm an ammy with minimally marked bay mares, so I don't think I'd really stand out enough to be recognizable

I certainly wouldn't, but I would use it as a reason to reinvent myself in another discipline.

The government has to set you up in a more or less decent lifestyle, right? That would mean if I had 4 close contact saddles, they'd hook me up with 4 reining saddles or whatever? All in the interests if financing justice, you know.

Funny, was just pondering the same thing!!! Don't think I would be able to give up my girl....Could you do dye a horse coat?
maybe we could just get into jumping...or reining???

I know, giving up my horse would be the hardest part. Maybe move to the wilds of Montana and hide out among ranch horses...and still ride in a dressage saddle for fun when no one was looking? Then again, he hates a western saddle (I tried it on him twice, for fun...he didn't think it was very fun ). Guess I'd be caught!

No way would I give up the ponies! My blingy chesnut is pretty easy to spot so he might need a dye job though... The others should be pretty undercover. I love the idea of ranching in a dressage saddle, that'd be my first choice for a new life.

Fun but non-horsey side note... My parents' house was once the witness protection hideout for one of the gangsters depicted in Goodfellas after he turned informant. When they bought it, the house was a vacation place owned by one of the investigators on the Green River Killer case. Interesting little history on that place

Sounds like a lot of use would be giving the hair dye companies a huge boost in sales if we went into hiding!
