What is the going rate weekly or monthly for a lease here in California. I hardly suggest the weekly or monthly lease but after a conversation today with a fellow trainer I'm wondering what most of you are paying or have heard what others are paying. For instance we have a solid and packing 3'-3'3 (.90-1.00) horse who will do the equitation, medals and jumpers competitively, we don't plan to lease him out as he is currently doing a job, but have looked at the similar types with such a wide range of different prices. I've heard everything from $500.00 a week to $2,500.00 a week, I was a little shocked at the latter but perhaps this is "the new common".
I think it depends on the show. Like if it was for WEF, you could expect to pay 600 or so, if it was for Rinky Dinky Hunter Show Week I, maybe 250. If it's say, a 40,000 dollar horse, then a year long lease would be about 13000, and there for a week lease would be 250 (40000/3=13000/52=250), which would be fair for a week long lesser prestige show. For HITS or something where the competition is big, but not as big as WEF, then meet in the middle at about 450ish. For a finals, you'll want to go a little higher, say 700 or so, but they'll most likely want to lease the horse for 2 weeks, so (s)he can get used to the horse for finals.
