Default Eric Lamaze is taking a break

This was posted on his Facebook page this afternoon:

Dear Facebook Fans and Yes the Lamazing Ladies,
It has been a wonderful 6 to 7 years being at the top of my game, two Olympics, two WEG’s, and many more major Grand Prix’s around the world. I have decided to hang up my boots and spurs for a few months to recharge, play golf and in general just take a rest. I rented a nice place in California and will be spending most of my time there other then a planned trip to Africa. I want to thank you all for your great support through all this and I will keep you posted about my return to the sport of Show Jumping which I love.
    Take Care,
    Eric

Good for him! That is a good way to keep from burning out.

We will miss him, but I can quite understand that since Nov. 6, 2011... he must be feeling very tired and would need a break.
I hope he does come back, full of energy and ready to compete again. In the meantime, I wonder what will happen to Derly, Coriana, Verdi... they can't just take a break and rest, don't they have to stay in training? So who will be the "lucky" rider to work them?
And California, please enjoy our best rider (I just hope he does not like golf THAT much!).

Where in Cali? If it's in NorCal, let the stalking commence

    Good for him!

Hope he goes out with a win at the Masters this weekend!

I'm sure the horses would get a bit of a break so that they are fresh and ready to come back for the winter circuit in January.

Don't people routinely do this anymore? Way back many centuries ago when I was a little girl in long dresses carving my letter on my slate, jumpers were turned out after THOTYS in the UK, and not brought back up until spring, then it was after the Christmas Show at Olympia.

Good for Eric, I hope he comes back fresh and ready to go again

Yes, we Americans used to do this too. Home and shoes off after New York or Toronto until FL in February. Alas, everyone feels compelled to attend every.single.show on the calendar now, and go to FL in November. It wasn't just the horses that needed the rest...

JHU posted it may be shorter than announced... weeks rather than months.. he won't be at the Royal, he usually is in Europe and last year was an exception.

    Amen!!!!

There used to be an off-season, but horse showing has turned into hockey, the sport that never ends.

I wish more top riders did this. Sometimes you just need a break from something you've been doing for your whole life to explore and experience new things. Good for him! I hope he enjoys his well deserved break

That's what I liked about Canada. Unless you were willing to show down south, shows only happened April to October.

That said, many of us dreaded the off season because, after maybe 2 weeks of relaxing rides, our stirrups would disappear.

After watching Eric interviewed after showing yesterday, I think a break is a REALLY good idea.
