Default Gangnam video - stables cameo

An odd question but most suited for the Off Topic Day

Can anyone tell me why - if there is a reason why - South Korean rap/dance/techo sensation PSY does part of his video in a stable?

In case you aren't part of the millions who haven't watched the video

And if you think I'm citing an obscure song think of this: per Forbes this will be the first video to hit 1 billion views.

By comparison Carly Rae's song "Call Me Maybe" has had 304 million views on VEVO and YouTube.

Because the song is making fun of rich people.

Equestrian sports in Korea are for the richest of the rich, not many affordable options at all.

Ah! So there you go. I thought maybe it was because it was a very cool thing (horses) to have in a video.

The funky dance that Psy does with his hands crossed? That's his signature invisible horse dance:

Also, the video isn't making fun of rich people. It's making fun of wannabes:

Psy says, "Dress classy, dance cheesy"

Well, the OP was about why there were horses in the video...and there are horses because horses are a part of the culture in the Gangnam District, which is full of wealthy people.

So yes, the video/song/dance is making fun of wannabes, but the horses are in the video because they are a symbol of wealth/the Gangnam District that the wanna-bes are copying.

OK, Off Topic Day, I saw the video for the first time. Thanks Glimmerglass, I asked my daughter the same this morning when we watch SNL, "What is with the horses?"

The video, well I think my life would have been just great never watching it.

Trust me, my life would be vastly richer sans a great deal of what I've seen on-line!! Sorry to taint yet another human being with what I've accidentally listen to.

As someone who has been to Gangnam it ain't all that.

But yes there are a lot 'posers' in Seoul and the image of wealth is very important to a lot of their youth. At least that was my experience living there.

I'm not sure it's accurate to say that horses are really part of the culture IN Gangnam; the stables featured in the video are located north and west of the city (in the 'burbs, even though it's pretty built up around here, too!). I don't think there are any facilities for horses in Seoul (the racetrack is south of the city in Gwacheon), and definitely not in Gangnam.
