Default Open-toed heels in the fall

Trying to think how to phrase this so it makes sense....
I have several pairs of lovely heels fromvNine West that I bought last year while waiting for my ankle to heal from an express fall from a hay loft into a stall ten feet below
Now that I think I can wear them without serious pain, I am wondering how late in the season I can wear them without looking silly. I know I`m not suppsed to wear stockings with them so the cold is going to be a determining factor. So in other words, is there a `right time`to transition over?
I also am wondering what the guideline is for pant length with a moderate (2 - 2.5 inch) heel...I have several pair that are good with flats or a kitten heel, but was wondering how long I need to go to be right with higher heels.
Finally, should I be doing anything special to keep them loking new and staying fresh? These are nice shoes I got at a real bargain price, and I`d like to treat them well!

I am no fashionista but here are my guidelines.

Open-toed shoes must be put away when your toes start to get cold. If you wish you could wear stockings then it is too cold for open toes. In the midwest I put mine away at Thanksgiving or earlier depending on the year and depending on how many pedicures I want to spring for.

Pant length - regardless of heel height pants are supposed to be juuuuust a little bit above the ground. In theory you would have different hemmed pants for different pairs of shoes (does not happen in my world!).

    Here's some great pics!

As far as keeping them new and fresh - call me crazy but I do not drive in my nice shoes. I keep flip flops or driving slippers in the car and slide my shoes on when I get to my destination. Part of this is because I can't stand driving in heels to work - as soon as I have heels on I feel as if I am on the clock so I try and drag out putting them on until the last possible minute!

Certain open-toed shoes can actually look good with certain tights. If they're fall-ish shoes, like velvet or leather, and fall-ish opaque tights or fishnets, it can work. (:
