I don't know if they have Safeway on the east coast, but their 'generic' organic no-stir brand is just like JIF, but much healthier. Justin's is also pretty good.

I also like Smart Balance - and what are ABC peanuts??? (but I fully agree most natural pb has the consistency of nearly set concrete and tastes about the same)

Too funny - so my short answer to your title question is "no".

I went paleo and stopped eating peanut butter. Instead I make sunflower seed butter (toast raw sunflower seeds very lightly, purée in blender with extra light olive oil, a little salt and honey to taste). Much better than peanut butter!!

Trader Joe's has a really good creamy natural peanut butter
Have YOU ever looked into the eyes of a rich white child who has just lost a jumping competition?

I also eat Smart Balance PB nearly everyday. You do have to stir when you first open a new jar but then it's okay. I'm a PB and butter person myself. Can't stand jelly/jam. I've probably eaten it for 90% of my lunches in my life. My family says I'm boring and predictable, I just say there is nothing else that has a higher enjoyment/effort ratio.

if you buy some raw peanuts, roast them in fairly large batched, refrigerate the roasted peanuts, then you can use a blender / food processor / what have you to process small quantities on a regular basis - like two days supply. Then you don't need to refrigerate the peanut butter.
I eat lots of peanut butter. I won't buy any with sugar in it - hate that taste. Luckily there are lots of brands here without sugar. But I do like my own home made stuff the best.
You can change the flavour and texture to your own likeing by how long you roast the peanuts for, amount of salt you add and how long you process for.
If you don't have a food processer and you are a peanut butter gourmet, you should buy one - I'm sure you could get one second hand really cheap so you can decide if that's what you really want to do.
Yum - PB on fresh white bread.

I'm another who buys the Harris Teeter Peanut Butter (and the Almond Butter) that has no sugar, salt or extra oil.
I have never refrigerated it (it doesn't say anythng about refridgerating it), and have never had any problem, even when I leave it for several months.

Just a quick question to those who make their own PB in a vitamix. How hard is it to get it OUT of the vitamix?
BTW I think Peter Pan has a natural peanut butter

Good idea. I may play with the temp in my oven, too, as it takes cookies ages if I set them on the called for temp of recipes. I'm good with experimenting.
